Marvel vs DC vs Other

Marvel vs DC vs Other

I really enjoyed this post the first time around. However, there was no comprehensive list of all comic book movies. Marvel won by a margin that was more questionable to me than the Bush 2004 election. I’ve put together as complete a list as I possibly can, including the Independents, so everyone can make a well informed decision.

Some of these films are based on comics published under labels that are owned by either Marvel or DC. For example, “A History of Violence”, originally published in 1997 by Paradox Press and later by Vertigo, both are imprints of DC Comics. “Men in Black” was originally published by Aircel Comics. Aircel would later be bought out by Malibu Comics, which itself was bought out by Marvel Comics, who developed the property into a franchise.

If a movie isn’t in some way linked to either Marvel or DC comics, it goes into the “other” category. I’m going to start with the first movie I think relevant in each category because no one has seen “Superman and the Mole Men” or “3 Dev Adam”, whatever that is. I find this more of a challenge if I make my choices based on the ones I basically enjoyed instead of the films I absolutely loved. If I chose only the films I absolutely loved I'd have a list of about five films.

If anyone can inform me as to how I get a link to the poll in here please let me know. If you click on polls at the top, I believe it's the only one up at this time.

You have to be joking. I dont like Thor, I hate the whole reality behind him and Asgard and how it doest really go with most of Marvel. I hate Thor. that being said, he would kick Supermans ass.

I will simply say that I am a Marvel through and through and will always side with them(even when they're wrong) Marvel is what got me into comics, besides, no one wants to hear my "Why Marvel kicks the holy shit out of DC" spiel... or do you?

I will say this, Superman is the most poorly conceived and evolved character in mainstream comics. If he were real, I swear to all that's holy, I would kick him in his genitals with enough force to break my leg. I seriously hate him that much. Therefore, I will argue til I'm blue in the face that he is just a pussy in panzee red booties and that Jubilee would hand his ass to him.

The Shadow is actually owned by DC. And isn't "From Hell" published by DC??? Of course i could be wrong.

As for the list, i can't thank you enough for the time you put into it. But it still doesn't change the outcome regardless what your personal tastes are. Marvel has DC beat because they putt out movies that are alot more "comic book oriented". Dc has put out movies of comic book heroes which is not the same thing IMO.

If you ask me which company has made the very best films, it's DC handsdown. But who has put out the best COMIC BOOK movies, Marvel! NO CONTEST!!!

Yeah thanks for laying out the list dude, but im not going into my feeling on it again..im just gonna say, yay for comic book movies!..lets all hold hands with DC, Marvel and the rest and pray they keep churning em out..maybe spend a bit more time on some of them though ok?..cough.marvel.cough...

Shaman--Dont the best comic films make the best comic book movies? Marvel has more quantity but not quality, IMO. Lets not forget about Dark Horse. They've got Timecop! which I think I saw in the theater.

"Dont the best comic films make the best comic book movies?"

Actually, IMO there is a difference between a movie about a superhero and a "comic book movie". The feel is very different. A comic book movie has more action and effects while a film about a super hero has more of a dramatic story. I mean, i'm not saying that comic books don't carry any drama but it's not their main focus.

DUDE, that picture is freakin EPIC!!!

And make fun if you want, Judge Dredd is still in my TOP 3 comic book movies list!!! I LOVE THAT MOVIE :))

Judge Dredd? Come on. You guys are kidding right? It was hilarious I'll give you that.

Shaman--Was TDK a comic book movie or a film about a comic book character?
MarkCassidy
MarkCassidy - 5/25/2009, 1:04 PM
Yeeeah, not really feeling the Dredd love. I think i may actually have thought it was ok when i first saw it..but i was 15 or something.

Man, i always forget about Stamos! What a babe. and a great Mystique too, despite the fanboy backlash at her altered appearance.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I think its the same thing as She Hulk, anyone who plays her wouldn't look like she hulk, they would look like a chick that was painted green. Same with Mystique, if she had come out just painted blue I would have laughed, they had to give her more substance.
Actually Betty, i'm dead serious about Dredd. It is hands down my favorite Stalone movie of all time and like i said, on my top 3 cbm list! So far, my first would have to be Ironman, my second would be the first Blade and the third is Judge Dredd. And i'm just rating on "enjoyability" not on accurateness to the source. But hey, like i mentionned before, i loved the hell out of Meteorman LOL! So yeah, i'm peculiar :))
And TDK is IMO, THE BEST film about a comic book character. It had everything a film needs to be a success and on top of that it had to do with a comic book character. But as the "comic book" feel to it goes, didn't rank in that much. Like i've said many times before, Ironman and the first Spider-man are PERFECT examples of amazing "comic book movies".
Let's just drop the crap (Howard the Duck vs. Steel? Hmm...) and list the GOOD movies (in my opinion)...
MARVEL
(I haven't seen War Zone or Wolverine)
Incredible Hulk
Iron Man
Spider-Man
Spider-Man 2
X-Men
X2
Men in Black
Blade
DC
Watchmen
The Spirit (that movie's dope)
The Dark Knight
V for Vendetta
Batman Begins
Road to Perdition
Superman
Well, these stats justify my initial opinion: Marvel has quantity, but DC has quality. Just the fact that DC has Dark Knight, Batman Begins and V for Vendetta, three of my favorite movies of any genre of all time, makes this no contest. Then again, the others have Josie and the Pussycats, and I fuggin LOVE that movie!
PS: I don't want to discuss why The Spirit is good. If you didn't enjoy it, you'll likely never get it.
PSS: What the @!$% is G-Men from Hell?
Shaman--I see what your sayin'. What's Meteorman?
On a side note, just to talk about Spiderman I. I felt it had the same beats as Batman I.
marshmallowyme--I'm with you on The Spirit. Loved it. I like Eisner though. Miller did a good job. He just maybe messed up using sin city style when people really want to see sin city 2.
G-Men from Hell. They are from one of my favorite comics, "Madman". The "G" stands for "government". They are a couple of cia guys that went to hell but got a second chance to come back and make things right again. I dont know how they got a movie before Madman but it was made. I dont think anyone has seen it.
Yeah dude, Meteorman is or was an "ebony" movie... know what i'm sayin??? In a day and age where black people had they're own movies because they weren't alowed in white people movies LOL. It's this guy that lives in a rough part of town and one evening he stopped two grade schoolers from robbing a woman in an alley. Then the whole gang stepped out of the shadows and he ran in the alleys. When he got out of hiding, he was hit by a meteor that gave him superman powers. His suit was pretty cool, eddie griffin was semi-funny as he always is and you had that black Zeus guy and Don Cheadle as bad guys. Oh and the gang had all died golden hair. It was corny, but i still enjoyed it very much and i'm still looking around to find a dvd of it LOL :P The cast was pretty cool. You had Bill Cosby in a cameo, James Earl Jones was really cool, Lil' Luther Vandross was in it and had no lines which was appropriate.
That one escaped me. I just looked it up. I vaguely remember the cover because I worked in a video store for a long time. Is it as good as Blank Man?
Shaman
Shaman - 5/27/2009, 8:46 AM
Dude, Blank Man completely and utterly sucked!!! Meteorman isn't a parody of comic book movies like Damon's crappy movie. It's a funny but very enjoyable comic book movie. Kinda like what a "The Flash" movie would be like if Wally West was the character (or better yet, a Deadpool movie). It's a family film but it's definitly worth watching at least once in your life. I mean i really dislike all black movies but this one, for some reason i could relate to it. I dunno... you might end up finding it worse than Warzone for all i know but it would boggle my mind to think that you'd prefer Blankman over Meteorman.
I missed this one, that was long list. Meteroman ghetto but funny. BlankMan no better than Damon Wayans character on In Living Color HandiCap Man, that blew hard.
