So some of these I actually wasn't 100% on but I think I have covered most of the CBMs we have seen that were not based on a comic published be either Marvel or DC. And I'm including anything based on a DC/Vertigo comic too.

Now there are a few obscure ones I left out, as well as some just downright terrible ones I knew nobody would vote for(yes I realize there are some terrible ones on the list as it is). But I wanted to keep the list to 20 so there you have it. I have my own guess as to which one will come out on top, what do you think? Anyway, vote away!

I voted on Scott Pilgrim vs the World! Great comic book and great film. I haven't read or seen American Splendor though. I have heard that it's also very good. You missed Tank Girl Ror, although even if it was on the poll I doubt it would win.
DoodPool - 8/4/2011, 5:39 AM
The Hellboy movies are great and probably underrated.

Why Akira? Sure mangas are essentially comic books but there are a lot more animes based on comics then just Akira, i'd say that should be it's own list :P
marvel72 - 8/4/2011, 5:42 AM
1st sin city
2nd the crow
3rd 300
4th scott pilgrim vs the world
5th akira
6th hellboy 2
7th hellboy
8th the rocketeer
9th 30 days of night
10th the mask
MarkCassidy - 8/4/2011, 5:42 AM
I left Tank Girl off in favor of something else.

Kick-Ass is exactly a Marvel comic. Imprints count.

Yeah I thought about Akira, I get that there are a lot of other Anime I could have listed but Akira set the benchmark so I figured it earned a spot.
Orphix - 8/4/2011, 5:42 AM
Road to Perdition would have got my vote - but it ain't there!?!?!
Jefferys - 8/4/2011, 5:43 AM
If Spawns here then shouldn't Kick Ass be as well
MarkCassidy - 8/4/2011, 5:49 AM
Spawn is Image comics, Kick-Ass was originally published under Icon, a Marvel imprint. Road To Perdition is DC.
Jolt17 - 8/4/2011, 5:55 AM
Pretty tough, between HELLBOY, HELLBOY II or PILGRIM!

I mean most are good as well, but for my favs, those three are.
avenger15 - 8/4/2011, 6:03 AM
NO KICK ASS!, oh well I voted for scott pilgrim vs the world because it is a really cool film.
Number1Wolverine - 8/4/2011, 6:07 AM
This is tough, i like Spawn, The Crow, The Mask, Men In Black, Scott Pilgrim vs. the World, and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. But i'll vote for TMNT, nothing beats a classic. COWABUNGA DUDE!
MarkCassidy - 8/4/2011, 6:08 AM
lol, Slaine it's a poll to vote for the best CBM that isn't based on a Marvel or DC comic. Kick-Ass is a Marvel comic whichever way you want to slice it. I'm not sure how much clearer that can be.
RunDTC - 8/4/2011, 6:11 AM
@Ror: what about Unbreakable (my personal choice) or Road to Perdition?
SpideyDude - 8/4/2011, 6:12 AM
SCOTT PILGRIM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

isnt Men in Black marvel?
ComicBookGoth - 8/4/2011, 6:12 AM
really?
No love for Ghost World
SpideyDude - 8/4/2011, 6:12 AM
and wheres kick-ass? its creator owned, not marvel or dc
thalidomide - 8/4/2011, 6:14 AM
TMNT, Hellboy, and 300
Ethic - 8/4/2011, 6:14 AM
This is deadly! lol

I chose The Mask because I grew up with that movie, seen it like 1000 times.

Besides it,
Sin City
Men In Black
300
Scott Pilgrim

Basically impossible to choose lol
judoka - 8/4/2011, 6:17 AM
Unbreakable isn't a comic book movie really.
Mysterion - 8/4/2011, 6:17 AM
What about Constantine? Oh wait forget it, Vertigo Comics is owned by DC...I think.
Hawksblueyes - 8/4/2011, 6:21 AM
Great Poll Ror. I had no idea From Hell was from a comic book.
Mysterion - 8/4/2011, 6:21 AM
& Im stuck between HellBoy2 & Scott Pilgrim as my favs...and The Spirit shouldnt even be mentioned, that was an abortion.
MarkCassidy - 8/4/2011, 6:29 AM
Well, tis a good thing the poll isn't based on peoples considerations then isn't it?

Tea, damn right I was just thinking that! "What is Kick-Ass doing on the list, that's Marvel. UGH. FAIL"

Believe it or not The Spirit actually has some fans..I'm not one of them but some folks take it as a kind of a parody. It's still crap even if that's true but different strokes.

Hawksblueyes - 8/4/2011, 6:30 AM
I'm with you on that tea. 300 is visually stunning but the film itself is relatively boring after the first few times.
SpideyDude - 8/4/2011, 6:30 AM
kick ass isnt owned by marvel though....

regardless i would vote scott pilgrim
Canon108 - 8/4/2011, 6:30 AM
Where's 'Road to Perdition'?...it was nominated for 6 Oscars winning one and Paradox Press published the original graphic novel the film was based on...

My top 10:
1. Road to Perdition
2. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
3. American Splendor
4. 300
5. Men in Black
6. Sin City
7. The Mask
8. Flash Gordon (1936)
9. Dick Tracy
10. Popeye

They missed a ton of films with their root in properties other then DC or Marvel...
CorndogBurglar - 8/4/2011, 6:32 AM
lol, what the hell is wrong with people today?

@ hawksblueyes

yeah man, From Hell is classic Alan Moore :)
CorndogBurglar - 8/4/2011, 6:33 AM
goddamnit people. Kick-Ass has the [frick]ing MARVEL logo on the covers. Its a goddamn Marvel movie. get over it.
Shaman - 8/4/2011, 6:33 AM
The Crow, hands down.
CBArtist - 8/4/2011, 6:38 AM
I remember the first MIB had Marvel's logo all over it.
Shaman - 8/4/2011, 6:38 AM
Nothing tops Top Dollar ;P
Hawksblueyes - 8/4/2011, 6:41 AM
Thanks CDB. I've looked it up in the last few minutes.:)

I had always thought it was just another very good take on the Jack the Ripper legend. I never even bothered to look to see where it originated.

tea: In all honesty, after the second viewing the film begins to look as if it is a parody of itself.
comicb00kguy - 8/4/2011, 6:45 AM
What about The Incredibles? It was about superheroes after all. Don't recall who published the comics that came out later.

Also, who published A History of Violence? I've never read the original comic, but that was an excellent movie.

Of the choices we're given, it's tough to choose just one. There are at least ten films that are very worthy of a vote.
ROBBEATZZZ - 8/4/2011, 6:45 AM
UMMM STARWARS?..MAYBE NOT NEVERMIND
nuck82 - 8/4/2011, 6:48 AM
