Who Could Play Marvel's Netflix Heroes?

Who Could Play Marvel's Netflix Heroes?

I've decided to choose a few actors to play the roles of the main heroes: Daredevil/Matt Murdoch, Iron Fist/Danny Rand, Jessica Jones, and Luke Cage. For the fun of it, I also chose a Director to set the tone for these movies.

*This Is Not A Full Blown Fan Cast Of Every Player In These Shows; I'm Focusing On The Main Heroes*

DAREDEVIL

Michael C. Hall

Michael C Hall photo: Michael C. Hall Michael-C-Hall_l.jpg

When you look around the web, Hall's name comes up constantly for the role of Daredevil. Some think it's tiring, but others (such as myself) see him as the popular, but also safe choice. Dexter had huge ratings for many years, and this was due in part to Hall's acting. There's no doubt he can act; I could see Marvel going with him if they were wanting a big name TV star.

Richard Madden

Richard Madden photo: Richard Madden rich.jpg

Unlike Hall, Madden is perhaps not as popular (arguably); but that should change. Madden had a great run on HBO's Game of Thrones and showed he has excellent acting abilities. He's young and talented, which seems to be the motivation for almost every casting decision Marvel makes. All kidding aside, he'd be an excellent Daredevil and an excellent addition to the MCU.

Damien Lewis

Damien Lewis photo: Damien Lewis 1.jpg

Out of the three choices I could think of for Daredevil, Damien makes the most sense to me. He's a talented BRITISH actor (Hollywood's favorite type) who while popular before, has significantly gained more notoriety for his performance in Homeland. While that may take up most of his schedule, I'm sure if Marvel really wanted talent as high caliber as Lewis, they'd make the time for him.

DIRECTOR: Joe Carnahan

Joe had a shot at Daredevil back before Marvel regained the rights, and in my opinion it was tragic that we lost Carnahan's vision for Daredevil. Gritty and no holds barred, Carnahan didn't get to shoot a thing but his concept video sold me. Mind you, this may be a bit too gritty for Marvel, but considering they're going to Netflix and not ABC for this, something tells me Marvel isn't afraid to get a bit of dirt under it's nails.

Please Marvel, skip the origins bullshit and give us the story we deserve: Born Again.

Born Again photo: Dare Born Again Daredevil_Born_Again.jpg

IRON FIST

Ray Park

Ray Park photo: Ray Park Ray_zpscf1122be.jpg

Ray makes a lot of sense to me for the role of Iron Fist; his Martial Arts background is a huge asset, but on top of that, he's generally been hidden as an actor. In that sense, he's covered in masks, or makeup, and has rarely had a chance to really show himself for who he is. I think while a little older, he has the skill and even Marvel occasionally casts older actors. So why not!?

Jason Statham

Jason Statham photo: Jason Statham JasonStatham.jpg

While Statham has stipulations on who he would play, I'd imagine Iron Fist would be more up his alley then a Cyclops or Dr.Strange (although don't deny, it would be hilarious). Not the best actor, but he's a great action star and would be a good 'get' for Marvel.

Cam Gigandet

Cam Gigandet photo: Cam Gigandet.jpg

While I'll always remember Gigandet as the one who killed Marissa, it's no denying that the guy is a decent action star. Not my first choice, but I think he has potential to be a good (if not great in some aspects) Iron Fist.

DIRECTOR: Gareth Evans

Either you've seen The Raid, or you haven't.

LUKE CAGE

Dwayne Johnson

Dwayne Johnson photo: Dwayne Johnson Dwayne-Johnson_042.jpg

I'd go with Dwayne mainly because to see him and Ray Park as Iron Fist together would be great. The two had chemistry on GI Joe 2, so it would be a pseudo-continuation of that. Also, Dwayne is also a pretty charismatic lead when given good material.

DIRECTOR: John Singleton

Like Carnahan, I think Singleton was a good fit for the character but when the rights reverted his vision got shelved. Singleton has a history with film that makes Luke Cage almost a no-brainer for him to direct.

JESSICA JONES

Kate Mara

Kate mara photo: Kate Mara kate-mara-naked-0309.jpg

After seeing her in House of Cards, I was convinced of her acting ability as well as her hot body (sorry). She works well under the Netflix model, and is a rising star who honestly could do a lot of great work in a role like this. Honestly, to me she's just the perfect fit.

DIRECTOR: Kathryn Bigelow

Kathryn is one of my all time favorite directors after she made my second most charished and viewed movie of all time: Point Break. That said, she also writes women on film well (i.e. Zero Dark Thirty) and can handle action scenes well. She'd be a big get for Marvel, seriously.

David Giuntolli for DD. He's the guy who played Nick in Grimm. He got DD-esque powers in season 2, plus he can fight and is a pretty solid actor.

The Rock playing Luke Cage on a Netflix tv show? Wishful Thinking.

Jason Statham has already stated that he wouldn't do a comic book movie and then followed that up by "dissing" the entire genre and making comments about tights. Sad, really because a.) He's made for this genre. and, b.) It's not like he's known for his AMAZING acting chops, so the cbm genre could be a financial windfall for him. I'm sure, though, if the check had enough zeroes, he'd immediately do an "about face", cover himself in hypocrisy sauce, and then come running for those tights!

I would love to see The Rock as Luke Cage but would he do a show on Netflix?

@Dandy

An Asian Iron Fist wouldn't be a bad idea at all. I don't know about you guys but I'm tired of seeing the white guy in a mystical asian setting.

Except that being a clearly 'white guy' is a big part of the Danny Rand character, and that as a result he doesn't naturally fit in with the rest of that 'world'.

I dont mean to be rude, but can anyone show me a clip of Michael C Hall acting? If its a made for TV Daredevil, and they just need him staring blindly ahead and looking morose, hed be great. However, if they ever wanted to do something more with the character, theyd up shit creek with a bad actor as a paddle...pardon my mixed metaphor.

I'm just hoping they give Rand the treatment he deserves, which seems unlikely for a Netflix show. I've heard the order is Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Iron Fist and Luke Cage.

I pray they use Daredevil to set up Rand as a local billionaire, so you know who he is, and Jessica Jones to directly introduce Daniel and Luke. That would allow for maybe six episodes of Iron Fist's 13 episode season to tell the "The Last Iron Fist Story" from Brubaker and Fraction's The Immortal Iron Fist.

It would help explain the mysticism of Iron Fist, his history, and tell an incredible story along the way. It's a great plot with a strong social story, twists and turns, and connects to the MCU by involving Hydra.

I just hope Marvel respects Iron Fist to use the best Iron Fist stories ever written to develop his character.

I like your casting! Then I saw the Rock. HELL NO!!!! Finally get a black superhero that stars in something and your gonna make the actors race not recognizable. I say Omari Hardwick or Michael Jai White.

I don't think you're going to necessarily get the really big name actors or directors for the Netflix series. Doubt it. Doesn't mean it won't be good, but they will cast lesser known up-and-comers and veteren character actors if the previous Netflix series are any indication.

My dream team for Heroes For Hire would be Dwayne Johnson (he would own the Cage role so hard) and Ryan Gosling (has that dreamy zen thing going on).

Bigtime movie directors aren't going to direct a 13 episode Netflix show. Might as well demanded Spielberg and Cameron.
TheSisko
TheSisko - 11/9/2013, 5:46 AM
I honestly do not understand why people want the Tooth Fairy as Luke Cage. Columbus Short would work if you want an actor with an athletic background that looks like Luke Cage. Jon Jones the arguable best fighter in world would also be acceptable. Even Cirroc Lofton who has no athletic background that I can tell would be way better then 'The Rock' who is way to old to be Luke Cage.
TheSisko
TheSisko - 11/9/2013, 5:58 AM
As far as the other actors I like your Daredevil choices, and age is less of an issue.

The Iron Fist choices you made were good too.

I never watched anything with Kate Mara in anything but she seems like a good choice that is different enough from Chloe Bennett's Skye who looks how I imagine Jones would look.

Domhnall gleeson. if he put on some muscle would be a very interesting DD. Damien lewis 7 years ago would have been great, but they really can't use a 40 year old in my opinion. He would have been perfect though

"The best thing about this is that marvel are not controlling it, its on netflix so these shows could be brilliant, l'm surprised that punisher is not in the mix, imagine that show on HBO."

Netflix is basically distributing, Marvel is producing. So, Marvel IS actually controlling it.

LOL the Rock is half black, but moving on.

I want a smaller name for Cage and give them a chance like they did with Hemsworth and Evans. Other than that, I like the actors chosen except Statham, for some reason I dont really like him that much besides when he kicks ppl, and if Rand is a great of a character as I hear he is, then we're gonna need someone with better range.

I wonder if Marvel is going to stretch the lines of wat they normally do since itll be on Netflix. Might they have more cursing/gore/violence?

I can see Billy Brown as a great Luke Cage. He is currently on HOSTAGES, and he has been in 24 (I think) and THE FOLLOWING, which are all great shows. Plus he has a tremendous build and is quite good as an actor.
thejon93rd

Richard Madden would make a great Daredevil (best choice on this list IMO), if this was a movie series though, I'd say cast Ryan Gosling, with Nicolas Winding Refn (Drive, Bronson) directing. For Iron Fist, I'd recommend Joel Edgerton, who was fantastic in Warrior, my favourite sports film of all-time. Only Terry Crews can play Luke Cage in my eyes, he's too charismatic and he deserves his own franchise so that he can build an even bigger fan-base (because the guy deserves it, he's solid in everything no matter how bad it gets). And I like your Jessica Jones pick, because she's hot, but I'll pick Olivia Thirlby because she was great in Dredd (and she's absolutely gorgeous too).
thejon93rd
thejon93rd - 11/9/2013, 7:46 AM
Jason Statham would kill it as The Punisher. That would be a TV series perfectly fit for Statham, non-stop action and he wouldn't have to wear any tights either.
