While it has been known for some time that Michael Fassbender's android David would be taking on a more villainous role in Alien: Covenant (as he would be the one responsible for unleashing the alien liquid on the Engineer's homeworld), what's remained a mystery is what became of his human savior, Dr. Elizabeth Shaw, played by Noomi Rapace.

As part of their Alien Day festivities, 20th Century Fox has released a new
prologue for the Ridley Scott-directed film, which reveals exactly happened to the duo after they narrowly escaped LV-223. The nearly 3-minute clip isn't particularly revealing in regards to the film's plot, but we do learn how David regained his body as well as how Shaw may ultimately factor into the new movie.

Check out the new prologue, titled "The Crossing," below:

Interesting. But in covenant do they try to colonize the engineers world?
StormXmen123
StormXmen123 - 4/26/2017, 12:38 PM
@Forthas - Im confused to. It seemed that it was the planet from Promentius just with planet life (we see the crecent moon ship in the forest).
But then again it could be the Engineers world. And the crashed ship is the one we just saw.

@Forthas - Believe so. Based on official stills -- there's a picture from just a bit after the end of this short, where a payload of canisters are dropping out of the ship, and another as a vast open space filled with charred bodies -- it would seem that David wipes out the planet's population. To what end, who knows. But he kills everyone and everything, gets on to some serious experimenting, and enter the new batch of victims, er, colonists.

@dmac3232 - I assume the new colonists are brought by a beacon from David.......

@StormXmen123 - They never made to the Engineers world....that will be in later films per Ridley Scott in some interviews. He wants to focus on the Xenomorph and Neomorphs in this cluster of films. The Engineers will get more films.

@Forthas -

Basically what it looks like is that Prometheus was basically a bunch of pointless philosophical tripe and questions that would be answered when they reach the homeworld of the engineers...

Except they instead decided against answering the questions and just threw everything away for a classic alien vs survivors storyline;

- David unleashes the Xenomorphs
- The Xenomorphs kill the Engineers
- A new group of survivors end up arriving and discovering the wreckage
- New group of survivors gets picked off until they are all dead
Forthas
Forthas - 4/26/2017, 2:51 PM
@Scarilian - Maybe but let's say it is on the Engineer's home world, then that means the crew could discover a technology left by the engineers that could be useful as they attempt to survive. That to me would be an interesting plot point.

@Forthas -

They were in an Engineer spaceship in two movies - and they've discovered nothing about it on both occasions. As for their survival, we've seen no hints so far of them using any of the Engineer's technology... we also know it boils down to basically two character because they showed all the other deaths in the trailers - so it boils down to the Ripley-style character and the bearded pilot.

I'm not interested in more plot points, the sequel should be providing us with answers - if it does not then all of Prometheus's philosophical remarks were for naught - and the series will never be taken as anything more than Alien creatures kill survivors.

Prometheus felt like it was trying to be philosophical, this film feels like its trying to copy the core elements of Alien, just with the inclusion of a 'stranded on the planet' story. I'm even starting to expect that they'll have the alien drifting into space at the end.

@Scarilian - It does not have to be a monster survival film. For example suppose they find a technology that was left behind by the Engineers. Different from Prometheus, David could have studied the Engineer's technology and developed a working knowledge of it on their journey to the Engineer's home world. So this technology would allow them to destroy the entire planet and wipe out this new species. The philosophical question would be how are they different from the engineers who seemed to be planning to destroy earth. Thus they may choose sacrifice over extinguishing a new species. That would be an unexpected development in what seems like a monster survival movie.

@Forthas - " Thus they may choose sacrifice over extinguishing a new species"

Except they would be doing this with the Xenomorph as David has seemingly commited genocide on all the Engineers.
Forthas
Forthas - 4/26/2017, 7:05 PM
@Scarilian - I meant they would choose not to exterminate the xenomorphs. In other words it would be a recognition that the xenomorphs are mindless animals that may evolve. From a philosophical point of view it would symbolize human evolution over thier creators in that they have morality and compassion for life.

Of course none of this would probably happen but I am just showing you how it could turn out to be more than a horror movie in the vein of "Alien"
Scarilian
Scarilian - 4/26/2017, 7:17 PM
@Forthas -

I think it would recieve a lot of backlash if they decided not to kill the Xenomorphs. They would effectively be responsible for all of the original movies and generally for destroying a majority of planets where the main life form has been wiped out by Xenomorphs.

I get the comparisons to humans and things, but i can't see them going that route anymore given they've shoved two movies together out of a planned three movie prequel to Alien.

The more I see, the more I like. BTW, I actually thought Prometheus was pretty good other than the idiotic decisions some of the characters make. Looking at you biologist guy who walks up to the first alien life ever encountered and basically pokes it.

@BassMan -

Alien Covenant is the only thing that could redeem Prometheus, if we got any sort of answer to the billions of nonsensical events and philosophical questions that the first movie brought up.

At the moment it looks like it doesnt, as the only ones who could provide the answers would be the Engineer's and it looks like David kills them all in the prologue/opening.
BassMan
BassMan - 4/26/2017, 3:16 PM
@Scarilian - My guess is that David figures out those answers, which may lead to his (possible) decision of eradicating them. Totally agree with the lack of answers from Prometheus, should have had a more cohesive conclusion seeing as Scott wasn't really planning on a sequel from what I remember.
Scarilian
Scarilian - 4/26/2017, 6:24 PM
@BassMan -

If David could figure out the answers by looking around the ship, why did they waste so much time heading to the homeworld - and why did'nt he notice when he was in the ship in Prometheus.

To me the answers needed to be from the planet, even if it was a case that when they landed that Shaw was taken and experimented on turning her into the first true alien - revealing that they planned to turn Earth's inhabitance into super-soldier style monsters (Xenomorphs) to conquer the galaxy.
BassMan
BassMan - 4/26/2017, 7:49 PM
@Scarilian - Good point. I'd like to believe that David was compelled to, possibly by the programming in his system to completely understand the engineers. Quite possible their entire encyclopedia of knowledge was held on that planet, driving him to make it there. That seemed to be his prime directive, to understand the engineers. Or perhaps he found or developed a respect for Shaw for repairing him, and is intent of fulfilling her desires. Won't know until we see the film I suppose

Either David kills her, or an Xenomorph kills her, or she'll end up like 'Newt' and be found by the new main characters when they explore a crashed ship.
