Shortly after adapting Ready Player One for Steve Spielberg and signing on to expand the world of The Matrix for Warner Bros., it has now been revealed that Zak Penn will adapt ROM for Hasbro's Allspark Pictures and Pararmount. ROM, or Read-Only-Memory, originated as a toy and appeared in Marvel's ROM: Spaceknight comic book. The character has since appeared in titles from other companies like IDW so this upcoming adaptation isn't going to be set anywhere near the Marvel Cinematic Universe!
Hailing from a utopian society on the planet Galador, ROM is a cyborg who, after defeating the invading Dire Wraith on its planet, continues the battle on Earth and other planets. It's a property with a lot of potential on the big screen, especially as sci-fi movies are more popular now than ever before thanks to Star Wars and Guardians of the Galaxy. Penn has made it clear in the past that he's a big ROM fan.
The writer has a lot of experience in the world of comic book movies after contributing to everything from X-Men 2: The Last Stand to The Incredible Hulk and The Avengers. Are you guys excited to see ROM come together? As always, share your thoughts on this news in the comments section below.
