STAR WARS: THE RISE OF SKYWALKER Concept Art Reveals Chewbacca Torture Scene And Millennium Falcon Transformed

In a new batch of concept art from J.J. Abrams' divisive Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, we see Chewbacca being tortured at the hands of the Knights of Ren and a different take on the Millennium Falcon.

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker went through a lot of changes during its journey to the big screen, and even with a lengthy runtime, it was clear Lucasfilm struggled to include all of J.J. Abrams' ideas to wrap this trilogy up. Ultimately, the majority of fans would respect the filmmaker's attempt to deliver a fan-pleasing finale, but this is a franchise that's often struggled to make everyone happy.

An earlier version of the movie would have seen Kylo Ren reunited with Chewbacca, although it certainly wouldn't have been much fun for the Wookie. Ben Solo was going to torture and interrogate his "uncle," and new concept art shared by Jon McCoy shows some early designs for that scene.

"In the film, there [was] a scene where Chewbacca is being interrogated/tortured," the artist explains. "We were asked to generate some ideas for this scene and designs of the machine that would be holding him in these terrible stress positions! I aimed at portraying a very iconic and unique pose that Chewie would be held in, to make the shots memorable."

McCoy has also revealed that he suggested the Millennium Falcon be transformed from a ship to the Resistance's new base. "I had the vision of an 80’s toyset, where compartments would extend and slide out, turning the original thing into something else," he notes, pointing out that this role ultimately fell to the Blockade Runner (we'd have been curious to see this Falcon on screen).

It's always fun to see what might have been with movies like this, but neither one of these ideas is likely to have been enough to fix a finale many fans felt was way off the mark. Still, we can't fault McCoy's work, and he clearly had a cool take on some specific scenes in Episode IX.

Check out the concept art below and head over to Jon's website to see much more of his work!

Still bugs me how Rey is just a taker….
She takes Luke’s saber, takes the Falcon, takes the sacred Jedi books, takes Leias lightsaber, takes the Skywalker name. Is there anything about her that’s original?

@AnthonyVonGeek - The problem is that the theory of this is that she takes everything they pass them from the past. And this is because, usually, old conservative fans react badly to new things. So in order to make them accept new stuff writers have to pass A LOT of old stuff to new people.

If paying viewers would pay for almost completely new stuff, Lucasfilm would absolutely do that. Episode IX was terrible, but at least it tried to add something never seen. (The dagger, the dyad, Rey's parents, Ocho of Bestoon) and people reacted so badly on this just because they weren't familiar with it. (Let's be honest: very few people analyzed those stuff without being unreasonable)

When in Episode VI Leia is revealed to be Luke's sister 20 minutes from the end of THE SAGA nobody beated an eye and now it's the fulcrum of half the stories we had and we have.

The reason why Rey is a "taker" is because the more vocal fandom just wants to see old stuff they love from when they where kids. Writers and producers just had to fit inside everything they could in a somewhat reasonable fashion and give it to some actor that is not 70 years old. I think that Rey wasn't that original because they needed to have some kind of "bearer" that would bring all those relics along.

@FrankieDedo - the Force Dyad is one of the coolest things the sequels introduced in my opinion, but just very poorly executed (especially ending it with a kiss). Same with the Sith Eternal.

Both really hone in on Palpatine's more arcane knowledge of the force. They should've just done it without having brought back Palpatine. Some Sith Eternal dude that served as Snoke's apprentice could've served Palpatine's role as well. That even would've explained why it didn't play out well for them, since it just didn't feel like Palpatine to fail so miserably.

@bkmeijer1 - I don't think that Palpatine's return was a bad idea per se, the way it was done was poorly done and something conceived last minute, but i like the idea of him emboding the ultimate evil that you can't remove from the galaxy. Snoke would have been a lame villain, in the end. They should just have gave the trilogy to a single director, not three different in order to remake that "unique character" each classic movie had because of the different visions

@FrankieDedo - I agree no one else but Palpatine is the one to embody all evil, that's why having him return felt so lame. At no point did the First Order really feel like a big threat (even after blowing up Hosnian Prime) though, so upping the stakes with the Final Order really did feel poorly conceived

Poor Chewy. No great send off. He couldn’t even see Ben turn good again.

for a second I thought there was concept art of the Falcon transformed into a robot....and somehow it would've felt like less of an ass-pull than other things in the movie.

Still rehashing old ideas instead of creating anything new for the franchise imo.

Didn't we already got those stills of Chewy? For some reason I even remember the context as well: Kylo tortured Chewy, but all he got was happy small Ben memories from him. My boy Chewy really had it tough
