THE DARK TOWER: New Featurette Offers A Look Back At The Gunslinger's Storied Legacy

With Spider-Man: Homecoming nearing release, Sony Pictures has started to slowly shift their attention to their late summer release The Dark Tower and last night, they released a sweet new featurette.

"I do not aim with my hand, I aim with my eye. I do not shoot with my hand, I shoot with my mind. I do not kill with my gun. I kill with my heart."

It's been a long time coming, but The Dark Tower is just over a month away now and with Spider-Man: Homecoming releasing worldwide within the next two weeks, it shouldn't be a huge surprise if a new final trailer for the Stephen King adaptation, which stars Golden Globe-winner Idris Elba (Thor: Ragnarok) as the legendary Gunslinger and Academy Award-winner Matthew McConaughey (Gold) as the nefarious Man in Black, is with us sometime before then.

The Nikolaj Arcel-directed feature is certainly one of this summer's biggest wildcards, but if it manages to garner a decent critical reception, it has a good shot at cleaning up at the box office during August, especially considering its modest $60 million budget and with little-to-no competition coming from any fellow sci-fi affairs in the late summer months.

Check out the new featurette below:

There are other worlds than these. Stephen King’s The Dark Tower, the ambitious and expansive story from one of the world’s most celebrated authors, makes its launch to the big screen. The last Gunslinger, Roland Deschain (Idris Elba), has been locked in an eternal battle with Walter O’Dim, also known as the Man in Black (Matthew McConaughey), determined to prevent him from toppling the Dark Tower, which holds the universe together. With the fate of the worlds at stake, good and evil will collide in the ultimate battle as only Roland can defend the Tower from the Man in Black.

The Dark Tower features:
Director: Nikolaj Arcel
Idris Elba as Roland Deschain/The Gunslinger
Matthew McConaughey as Walter Padick/The Man in Black
Tom Taylor as Jake Chambers
Katheryn Winnick as Laurie Chambers
Jackie Earle Haley as Sayre
Fran Kranz as
Pimli
Abbey Lee Kershaw as Tirana
Michael Barbieri as Timmy
Claudia Kim as Arra Champignon
José Zúñiga as Dr. Hotchkiss
Alex McGregor as Susan Delgado
Nicholas Hamilton as Lucas Hanson
De-Wet Nagel as
Taheen Tech
Dennis Haysbert as Steven Deschain

The Dark Tower hits theaters August 4

This looks visually and production design very uninspired.

Looks very good, but i don't like the I-kill-with-my-heart line, is this line from the books?

@IcemanX - That it is.

Does the movie take place after the books?

@IcemanX - Yeah. Some of the shots clearly show that Roland has the Horn of Eld.

I really want this to be good. I just am scared because they haven't shown us hardly anything from this movie. I don't know how this will turn out.

I never read these novels and I haven't seen the trailer yet... but I just have this gut feeling this movie is not going to be very well received.

I dunno man, I was quite interested in this movie concept-wise but the trailers aren't doing it for me.

So many blockbusters at the moment have this generic one-size-fits all vibe to them. It's like they're all done by the same cinematographer and director. Like everyone is afraid of taking a single risk and showing some style.

I'm actually curious about wether studios enforce this. Look at Joss Whedon's Firefly for an example. Visually gorgeous show with this lived-in, warm golds and browns western look and beautiful music. Then he got the movie and it lost all that and had a generic cold blues space look, with futuristic music. Looks like any other blockbuster. Did he choose to drop what made the show look great? Or was he told to make it more appealing to 'general audiences'?

Few great exceptions recently have been Skyfall, The Guest, It Follows, Kong Skull island (suprisingly), Guardians of the Galaxy, Fury Road, the Nice Guys.
