PROMETHEUS Viral Campaign Begins!

PROMETHEUS Viral Campaign Begins!

If you're a fan of the Alien franchise you are familiar with the giant conglomerate corporation Weyland-Yutani. Now watch how it all began with Peter Weyland (Guy Pearce) giving a powerful speech.

I genuinely don't care for viral marketing campaigns. Look at me I sprayed a graffiti spider on a wall or hey you can follow a map that leads you to buying tickets for a Batman movie. I just don't think a viral campaign has ever made me want to see a film. Wait, scratch that I saw Blair Witch only because of their brilliant viral campaign, but outside of that none have scratched my interests.

Peter Weyland at TED2023: I will change the world A TEDTalk from the future as envisioned by Prometheus director Ridley Scott

Peter Weyland has been a magnet for controversy since he announced his intent to build the first convincingly humanoid robotic system by the end of the decade.

Whether challenging the ethical boundaries of medicine with nanotechnology or going toe to toe with the Vatican itself on the issue of gene-therapy sterilization, Sir Peter prides himself on his motto, “If we can, we must.” After a three year media blackout, Weyland has finally emerged to reveal where he’s heading next. Wherever that may be, we will most certainly want to follow.

Prometheus Cast: Meredith Vickers (Charlize Theron), Captain Janek (Idris Elba), Holloway (Logan Marshall-Green), Elizabeth Shaw (Noomi Rapace) and David (Michael Fassbender)

Prometheus will hit theaters on June 8th, 2012!

WHAT?!? They didn't just CGI de-age Lance Henriksen!! RIPOFF.

Um...this is the same character, right?

@Gusto - yeah, but he was also the guy that invented the androids. I think that was in Alien 3 (maybe) and AVP. This character must be a son or grandson or something.

I believe the original Alien took place in the year 2122 and judging by this viral video Prometheus takes place on or around the year 2023. That's a 99 year gap between the events of Prometheus and Alien. I am assuming that the events are linear.

Gusto - You were better off for it. Not the shining star of the franchise, in my opinion.

Ok, I'm sold! This type of camerawork (without many close-ups, that gives a sense of epicness to the material) is one of my favorites, since it has so much potential for a powerful narration giving the viewer a certain distance from which he can watch the whole picture gradually unfold before him... in a distanced but at the same time epic way!

As far as I am concerned, I was first introduced to that type of ''distanced'' aesthetic in The Dark Knight, and I adored it since it tied perfectly with the material. Moreover, Chris Nolan has said that he is a fan of Scott's ''rich cinematic world'', so it makes sense...

Pearce gives a helluva performance! he almost disappears under the skin of P. Weyland...!!

So, is Peter Weyland the son of Charles Bishop Weyland from AVP?

Guy Pearce is such a good actor. He could play any comic character and I'd be cool with it.

THAT WAS EPIC.

Imagine if DC had the balls and vision to do a scene like that with Lex Luthor for their rebooted Superman franchise. Basically the same character, even the down to the whole idea of greed for knowledge and power.

--------------------------------------------------------------------

i'm all for a good viral campaign, but the luthor/prometheus connection was IN "superman returns".
whatever you think of SR, luthor WAS about prometheus and wanted to defeat superman to replace "gods".
if snyderman II does that it will be a repeat. it's bad enough most consider SR a re-quel to S:TM and MOS a quasi-remake of S:II.

@Newbus - Guy is really trying his best "Sam Neill" comparison from the sound of it in this video.

Awesome viral, looks like it can be a part of the movie but some of you guys are a little confused as to the cannon of the Alien and AVP franchises, understand one thing... Ridley Scott in noway acknowledges the AVP movies, the're not apart of his Alien frachise and thankfully so, all of that weyland being in AVP is just nonsense. I do feel Guy Pierce's rant about the prometheus parable is a direct metaphor for the events that will take place in the movie tho.

Pearce is awesome! I wonder if his other movie 'Lockout' will be any good....Not the type of film I expected to see him in.

How many Fox haters are looking forward to Prometheus?

this will be incredible

also it's clear that AVP isn't in continuity with these films, which is for the best (hopefully he's ignoring Alien 3 as well)

This movie is gonna be extremely symbolic, full of hidden meanings. Prometheus is also identified as Lucifer in the occult circles. Cool!
