Neill Blomkamp's ALIEN Movie Is Officially Happening

The Chappie director had previously said there was a good chance he would direct a movie based on the awesome concept art he posted a while back, but now it's been confirmed that his Alien

When Neill Blomkamp posted that cool concept art of Ripley (Sigourney Weaver) and Hicks (Michael Biehn) most of us figured it was just wishful thinking, and an actual movie would never materialize. Then even after the director gave us hope by stating that there was "a high possibility, a high degree of chance that it happens that I go back and try to get Alien made", it still didn't sound like something that we'd see any time soon. Well, Blomkamp just posted the below image of a the classic Xenomorph to his Instangram, and in case that caption is too small, it reads: "Um... So I think it's officially my next film."

We know Weaver has also expressed interest, but we don't really have any other details on this just yet. Will it be some sort of continuation of James Cameron's Aliens? That's certainly what the concept art suggests, but any plans Blomkamp had could be altered radically once Fox comes on board. What do you guys think?

UPDATE: The Wrap report that Prometheus 2 is still going ahead, and that Ridley Scott will produce both films.

Um... So I think it's officially my next film. #alien

Sounds great. Let's see if he can handle a film that doesn't have to do with aliens in South Africa.

It's crazy to think that had Jodorowsky's Dune, been made the Alien movie franchise wouldn't have been born. It might have, but the probability that it still would have is very slim. It's great to see all these years later, that the world of Alien is still getting lots of love.
