Back in July Alcon Media Group and London-based Titan Publishing announced a new co-publishing venture that
would expand upon the Blade Runner universe through mix of both fiction and non-fiction print media, including books, comics, and graphic novels. It was just announced that
Blade Runner 2049 screenwriter Michael Green (
Logan) will be teaming with longtime collaborator and comic writer Mike Johnson (
Star Trek) for a currently untitled, in-canon
Blade Runner comic series.
In addition to co-writing the screenplay for
Blade Runner 2049, Green also has writing credits for
Alien: Covenant, Murder on the Orient Express, and
Logan, which earned him an Oscar nomination for Best Adapted Screenplay in 2018. Johnson, meanwhile, has co-written numerous comics with Green, including
Supergirl and
Superman/Batman. Johnson is also a veteran writer for the
Star Trek franchise and has credits for the
Transformers and
Fringe comics.
"Every iteration of the Blade Runner world throws the window open a little wider. Mike and I can’t wait to see what we find outside,” Green said of their upcoming project.
The new
Blade Runner comic series will be considered canon to the classic science-fiction universe, which was brought to life on the big screen by Ridley Scott in 1982. Unfortunately, there's no word on when we can expect to see the comic on store shelves.
