Disney's 20,000 LEAGUES UNDER THE SEA To Be Filmed In Australia
David Fincher's long talked about remake of 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea has moved one step closer to becoming a reality as the Australian government has confirmed that they have provided Disney with a $20 million incentive to shoot the movie down under.
The Hollywood Reporter has revealed that the Australian government has struck a deal with Disney to secure the David Fincher developed remake of 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea. They gave the studio $20.7 million as an incentive to shoot the film down under in a move which will create over 2000 jobs. As a comparison, the country did the same with The Wolverine last year and that created 1750 jobs, utilised over 1000 Australian companies and helped generate over $80 million revenue. "The announcement of 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea to film in Australia will result in meaningful benefits for the industry and the economy; including jobs, skills and training, and investment back into the local industry," said Debra Richards, CEO of locations marketing agency, Ausfilm. "This one-off payment highlights the importance of an attractive Location Offset which can successfully compete for large scale international production to shoot in Australia." We still know very little as to who will star in the remake, although the site adds that it's thought shooting will take place in New South Wales and Queensland.
