GODZILLA's Gareth Edwards Attached To Do GODZILLA TRILOGY

With Gareth Edwards success leading into the universe of Star Wars, where does that leave the revived King of the Monsters and his blazing new franchise? Rest assure, Gareth Edwards is still keeping the nuclear tyrant close to him.

Gareth Edwards is really moving up into the world, with the success of GODZILLA, it's only natural that the young director expands his reach within the industry. As of recent news, he has been attached to the upcoming Star Wars Spinoff and its entirety is set to be released December 16, 2016.  Certainly it will no doubt be a challenge for him, but given how deeply he respects the Star Wars franchise and its source material, Gareth Edwards appears quite ready and extremely excited to provide a grand experience.

However this leaves a question on the minds of many fans in the wake of this news, where does this leave GODZILLA? Well to that I say rejoice, despite Gareth's reach set to be in the stars, GODZILLA still follows closely from the depths as the young director has been confirmed by Tull Thomas from Legendary to be attached not only to the upcoming GODZILLA sequel, but an entire trilogy based upon the kaiju king. Comingsoon.net covers this

Legendary Confirms Gareth Edwards Still Attached to Godzilla Sequel

The big news of the day is that Godzilla helmer Gareth Edwards will be directing a mystery Star Wars film for release on December 16, 2016. What does that mean, though, for another big screen adventure with the King of Monsters? ComingSoon.net's ShockTillYouDrop.com has an update straight from Legendary Pictures CEO Thomas Tull.

“Gareth's filmmaking talent makes him one of his generation's most creative and visionary directors,” says Tull. “The plan has always been for Gareth to direct a different film before we started on another 'Godzilla,' but who knew it would be a 'Star Wars' installment? We have a great plan in store for 'Godzilla' fans and I am looking forward to seeing Gareth’s imprint on the 'Star Wars' universe.”

The Hollywood Reporter goes on to say that Edwards is attached not only to a Godzilla sequel, but for a full Godzilla trilogy.

--------------------

It will certainly be a while before the return of the King of the Monsters, but fans rest assure that Gareth Edwards still plans on unleashing Godzilla and all of his atomic fury upon the world. Warner Bros and Legendary Picture's GODZILLA remains in good hands.

Fantastic news!!!
So looks like we WILL INDEED get not only a sequel to Godzilla, but an actual trilogy for sure.
As a Godzilla fan this brings my heart joy. I just hope that we'll get a Godzilla sequel in 2 years rather than 3 or 4 years. They need to strike while the iron is hot!
Long live the King of The Monsters!!

The Star Wars news interests me most...think he'd do great with Boba Fett especially...

I've been on record, huge Godzilla fan, since a kid, but damn, just felt a little ripped off with this version...the appearance of Godzilla was incredible, the MUTOs, ok...lately watched Pacific Rim again, the Kaiju designs in that movie were incredible and unique characters themselves, not sure the Zilla MUTOs had that impact for me, especially with the amount of screen time they received...and the final battle everybody raved about, not there for me, didn't see much of it, kept cutting away and the fights were kinda lame until the atomic breath...damn, wanted to see Zilla rip them to shreds some in a more drawn out battle...I'll have to see it again to make final judgement...but the people parts were so damn boring, they really didn't write those characters well, except Cranston's character...

I will be at the sequel opening day, have faith they'll improve on it...

No Godzilla for a Marvel Crossover? ;)

On a firm note, I'm excited that a trilogy is grounded, even more happy that Gareth Edwards s here to stay. Can't wait for the sequel to blaze! Hope they don't wait too long (Observe 300 sequel), wait too long and that fire might not be as hot as the first outing.

Yeah, people rip on Pacific Rim, but damn, those battles were awesome, on land, in the sea, under the sea, in the air, etc...[frick], hope they do more of that style with the next 'Zilla...

@batz11

I think the only fight I enjoyed in that movie was the beginning one during the hurricane. After that it became pointless because everyone continued to die left and right.

Why do people want Godzilla to be Pacific Rim? It isn't and it shouldn't be. Godzilla is suppose to make every scene he appears in an event, not just another cool scene with Godzilla. The fights in Pacific Rim were great, but they didn't feel "eventful" like every single moment Godzilla appeared on screen. Also you can only do so much with Godzilla in a fight scene.
