Colin Trevorrow Teases Potential Direction Of JURASSIC WORLD Sequel
Jurassic World is undoubtedly the biggest film of the year with a worldwide gross of over $1.5 billion. In a recent interview, director Colin Trevorrow touched base on the recent sequel announcement and teased a few of the potential plot details. Come check it out!
Twenty-two years after the original stormed the summer box office, its sequel, Jurassic World, proved that even after so many years, dinosaurs still rule the Earth.
After an eventful summer, the Chris Pratt-starrer has grossed over $1.56 billion worldwide and is currently the third highest grossing film of all-time, which is where it will likely remain when it concludes its run later this year. Following the film's immense success, Universal Pictures announced a sequel set for June 22, 2018 with both Pratt & Bryce Dallas Howard confirmed to return, Colin Trevorrow & Derek Connolly penning the script, and Steven Spielberg & Frank Marshall back on as producers.
Prior to Jurassic World's release, Trevorrow confirmed that, while he would not be returning to the director's chair for a sequel, he did plan on being involved in some capacity, which has now been revealed to be as a screenwriter. In a recent interview with Wired, Trevorrow teased a few of the potential routes the sequel may take and judging by his comments, it sounds like it won't just be dinosaurs breaking free on an island and wreaking havoc. Check out his comments below:
"Whether or not I am involved in later installments or not, I felt it was important for me to set the table, I know they’re going to want to make them, I know that Steven definitely wants to make several of these movies, and I want to do my job in setting the table for something that can be rich and thoughtful and interesting."
"[It will not be] just a bunch of dinosaurs chasing people on an island, That’ll get old real fast."
"I feel like the idea that this isn’t always going to be limited to theme parks, and there are applications for this science that reach far beyond entertainment. And when you look back at nuclear power and how that started, the first instinct was to weaponise it and later on we found it could be used for energy."
"And this isn’t something necessarily that was in the book but is a seed that I wanted to plant in this movie, is that might be able to grow in more of these movies if they decide to make more of them, is: What if this went open source? It's almost like InGen is Mac, but what if PC gets their hands on it? What if there are 15 different entities around the world who can make a dinosaur?"
"And Dr. Wu says in the film, when he's warning Masrani, 'we’re not always going to be the only ones who can make a dinosaur'. I think that’s an interesting idea that even if we don’t explore fully in this film, there is room for this universe to expand. I shouldn’t use the word universe, because people will think we’re making a Jurassic World universe -- we’re not."
Sounds like the world of Jurassic Park could be getting a whole lot bigger very soon. What do you guys think? Which direction would you like to see the Jurassic World sequel head? Sound off with your thoughts below!
