JURASSIC WORLD 3 Won't Feature Dinosaurs Rampaging Through Cities Says Colin Trevorrow

Director Colin Trevorrow has shared some new details about his plans for the Jurassic World sequel and it sounds like he'll be taking a grounded approach to dinosaurs existing in our world. Take a look!

At the end of Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, dinosaurs finally invaded the world of man and the minds of fans started going into overdrive as they imagined a third instalment with the massive beasts rampaging through cities. After all, an after-credits scene did show Pteranodons in Las Vegas, but director Colin Trevorrow may have now dashed those hopes.

Rather than taking things down a Planet of the Apes style route, though, the filmmaker intends on keeping things grounded and it does sound like he has some good ideas for the follow-up.

"I just have no idea what would motivate dinosaurs to terrorize a city. They can’t organize. Right now we’ve got lethal predators in wild areas surrounding cities all over the world. They don’t go pack hunting for humans in urban areas. The world I get excited about is the one where it’s possible that a dinosaur might run out in front of your car on a foggy backroad, or invade your campground looking for food. A world where dinosaur interaction is unlikely but possible—the same way we watch out for bears or sharks. We hunt animals, we traffic them, we herd them, we breed them, we invade their territory and pay the price, but we don’t go to war with them. If that was the case, we’d have lost that war a long time ago."

While it's a rather "boring" answer, it is one that makes sense and seeing the sort of scenarios Trevorrow describes could actually be more exciting than a T-Rex running through the streets of New York...right? Well, maybe not, but it's certainly a more grounded approach to things and it will be interesting to see where he decides to take the franchise.

Are you excited for Jurassic World 3? As always, share your thoughts in the comments section.

So then what is the point of Jurassic Park 3?

@Forthas - Finding a new home for the dinosaurs and transporting them there while convincing the government these animals deserve a sanctuary. Like a convoy for a giant prehistoric zoo that goes horribly wrong and they have to fix it before the government decides to exterminate.

@Forthas - We will see in 3 years, but he does make a good point, there are plenty of wild animals in real life and they dont go to cities to slaughter all of us

And the thing with Jurassic is that they dont treat the animals are bloodthristy monsters, but as actual animals (yeah in some parts they are treated as monsters, but still), so lets say an Apatosaur would likely be more comfortable living in the forests where he's got plenty of food and water.

I get it, like we've already kinda seen a t-rex rampage and shit. His idea seems kinda cool. I do get the not rampaging a city, but it would still be kinda cool to see dinosaurs running through NYC, but makes 0 sense imo. Where and why would they be anywhere near the damn city. And I'm sure these dinosaurs were in Cali or something iirc.

So first he says that this movie wont feature a new hybrid dinosaur (aka the only new thing making these sequels technically a new series) and now they arent gonna rampage through a city? Why? Lack of motivation? Their animals. We have real world animals rampaging through cities in the real world. Only motivation they need is that its an area with plenty of food and they dont understand what a city is. Why is this guy still allowed to control the franchise?

CaptainElrond - 12/14/2018, 1:56 AM
@Origam - I don't think dinosaurs would come into the cities. Depends if they eat humans as a normal source, otherwise they would know there is not much there. And they would probably not survive very long once someone notices (disregarding jp2)

Small dinosaurs and pterodactyls likley.

eagc1995 - 12/14/2018, 8:45 AM
@Origame - Every Jurassic World movie does not need hybrids, there are plenty of real Dinosaurs they could have to be the new antagonist, you dont need to rely on made up Dinosaurs for each film, heck we dont even know what the story is, for all we know not having a hybrid would not work with whatever they have planned

and yes some animals do attack cities, but its not common, animals in general prefer to stay in their natural habitats

@eagc1995 - thats what they defined for this new franchise to change it from the old. Without that, this is just another sequel to jurassic park.

And dinosaurs no longer have a natural habitat. Theyve been long since extinct. Many of the plants they ate no longer exist. And they're just now being brought into a world where humans are dominant without the areas designed for them. They would definitely run wild in cities. The only reason its uncommon for animals to do this is because thats instinct we built into them over years. We didnt do this with dinosaurs.

@Origame - Well Colin ahs said they've been reffering to the movie as Jurassic Park 6 and not as Jurassic World 3 while working on it and he's aiming for the movie to be more close to the original movies, unlike Jurassic World and Fallen Kingdom.

@eagc1995 - and thats a bad thing. They already tried capturing the original and failed both times. This needs more new.

Within three weeks of the events of Jurassic World 2 all the Dinosaurs would've been euthanised or captured and put in pens, nothing more fictional than the idea they've been let free, to compete with bears/mountain lions/ Wolves, Coyotes and Bobcats for prey : Be careful now, tie your food up campers, there's T Rex's in the area, so ridiculous. It's a world of tanks, helo's, drones and rifles no way they'd be let wonder.

bkmeijer2 - 12/14/2018, 2:25 AM
@ARMUS - exactly, but the movie will probably ignore that
SethBullock
SethBullock - 12/14/2018, 7:41 AM
@ARMUS - Exactly, the US army would probably hunt them in less than a week.

If they wanted to keep them alive, maybe they would need some extra time and effort, but not much really.

The meateaters would really go to hanging around the cattle areas for food. So that would get the ranchers together and put a bounty on them. Have JP3 be now more of a western type film.

CaptainElrond - 12/14/2018, 1:42 AM

ARMUS
ARMUS - 12/14/2018, 1:59 AM
@elcamino - it sounds kinda like Ray Harryhausens ' The Valley of Gwangi " fun film.

It's a good idea, also has an element of plausibility about it, of course the Dino's would've been killed or captured in the real World, but this is a solid idea.

@ARMUS - Ranchers see a more profit in capture and sell cattle for food to them.Plus it is a way to get Bryce in jeans.

Kinda liked JW. But the second was sooo bad.
ptick
ptick - 12/14/2018, 3:42 AM
This is ridiculous because of how he's already established the dinosaurs in this franchise as having motivation beyond the food source. As far as avoiding populated areas? Only a small part of the island in JW was built like a theme park and yet dinosaurs went through it. Clearly, the pterodactyls wouldn't avoid cities and they alone would wreak havoc.

There's always a huge leap of faith in this series when dinosaurs leave the island because there are only two semi-plausible outcomes in real life - a quick and thorough elimination of the dinosaurs or very real, very dangerous, very world-changing consequences for man.

Please just stop making these things. With every movie another clod of dirt is heaped on the grave of a classic.

If that was the case, we’d have lost that war a long time ago."

is he stupid? Humans have exterminated all rivals, all of them. We have killed off numerous species of animals. Or is he speaking of dinosaurs? Because we would kill them all too
