JURASSIC WORLD DOMINION Star Bryce Dallas Howard Laughs Off Heels Backlash In 2015 Reboot

Colin Trevorrow rebooted the Jurassic Park franchise with 2015's Jurassic World, but there was some backlash aimed at Bryce Dallas Howard's choice of footwear as Claire. Now, the actor has responded...

2015's Jurassic World was by no means perfect, but it was a huge financial success and the fresh start the franchise needed. However, one element critics really zeroed in on for some reason was the fact Bryce Dallas Howard's Claire spent the vast majority of her screentime wearing heels.

That led to her running from a T-Rex in stilettos, though it was hard to escape the feeling that there was an element of sexism to the complaints levelled at these scenes in Colin Trevorrow's reboot/sequel.

Talking to Variety (via SFFGaztte.com), Howard decided to address the critics head-on. "Stepping into the shoes of Claire was also a little challenging because they were heeled, but nobody noticed," she jokes. "It has everything to do with what the experience is like while you’re making the movie and how either empowered or disempowered you feel.

"I always felt empowered, every single minute of 'Jurassic,' by Colin Trevorrow. And that experience, no comment or observation or analysis can ever take that away from me."

That's fair, and it actually sounds like the decision to put Claire in heels was one that the actor played a role in. As this franchise's female lead, Howard received some big moments in the first two Jurassic World movies and it would be a real shame to boil her role down to some unexpected footwear.

Hopefully, we'll get to see her kick some ass in Trevorrow's upcoming threequel. If what we've seen in the trailers is any indication, though, Claire will be thrust into the thick of the action.

Jurassic World Dominion takes place four years after Isla Nublar has been destroyed. Dinosaurs now live - and hunt - alongside humans all over the world. This fragile balance will reshape the future and determine, once and for all, whether human beings are to remain the apex predators on a planet they now share with history’s most fearsome creatures.

Jurassic World Dominion will roar into theaters worldwide on June 10.

That's fine and dandy, but are we supposed to believe she can outrun a t-rex on foot? Let alone with heels on lol

@bobevanz - I thought that was one of the funniest shots of the movie, her running past Chris like a rocket in heels and he is looking kinda of surprised as she zoomed past him.

@bobevanz - She was not outruning the Rex. The Rex was trained to follow flares to food. Hence you see the rex tracking the flare instead of claire

@bobevanz - we are suppose to believe a big ass T-Rex would walk into a building with no sounds and vibrations that not even the Raptors could hear?

@TheSuperMex - 😉 What if the T-Rex was wearing sneakers, hmmm...?

@bobevanz - Yes, you are supposed to believe that! I mean, the Rex just lumbered along like Jason "chasing" campers through the woods!

Don't know bout ya'll but she was looking all kinds of fine in that movie..... And they didnt gloss over the point of it... i thought it was quite empowering for women..

Did the haters have the same energy for Hathaway in TDKR??

@UniqNo - I think the difference is they gave Hathaway a throwaway line early in the movie kinda dismissing the silliness of her running around in heels while she kicks a goon in the shins.

Not that it makes it any more logical, but at least it acknowledges the impracticality of it.

@Feralwookiee - Can you say that again? I didn't hear anything you said...

Man, I forgot how she pushed that thang back like that.

@UniqNo - You people are so easy to convince into anything. Claire is a moronic character and that scene deserves ridicule, if anyone was being chased by an 8-ton, 20 foot tall carnivore they’d take their god damn heels off.

Why do you think it’s empowering for women to be stupid?
UniqNo
UniqNo - 5/27/2022, 8:38 AM
@Feralwookiee - That's true, but I felt they also acknowledged how uppity Bryce's character was aswell which was part of her arc.

Man I remember that shot, I, specifically downloaded a pirate copy after my cinema viewing to do a double take. It was sexy but also seemed unnatural and I was convinced it was VFX.

Hathaway was a good Selina IMO and actually prefer her portrayal over Kravitz, though she was still good.

@BroskiTroski - what you mean "You people.." 😅

In the context of a movie about Dinosaurs and the silliness of humans thinking its safe for the general public to consume like a zoo... yeah..It didn't take me out of the movie.

The characters arc was about how she was stuck up and ended up being a survivor in her own right, and being dam sexy while she does it.. and coming out the end as quite likeable. lol.. I think she would have been far more forgettable had that stuff not been kept in.

It's not art, but a pop corn movie...

@UniqNo - “It’s a stupid dinosaur movie” is such a weak defense I don’t know why you bothered making it. It’s like if I had a shitty car that always broke down and my defense was “I don’t even care about car management anyway.”

Claire is a mediocre character regardless of any attempt at an arc. She doesn’t even have a character arc, she has character switches. She sees dinosaurs as products until she meets one dying one and she instantly respects them. She’s prissy and professional until Chris Pratt makes a single remark, then she creates a makeshift adventure outfit out of her business attire and she’s suddenly “capable”. She doesn’t care about her nephews, but barely halfway through the movie before even meeting with them she’s already converted and adores them undisputedly.

That’s not how character growth works, it’s called an “arc” for a reason. Compared to Grant’s growth in the original JP, it’s embarrassing.

Also, I’m fairly certain “being sexy” was not apart of her character arc. Lol

@BroskiTroski - I'm not defending the movie bro, it's wasn't that great I'm just defending my view on on that part. Your dislike of other people's opinions shouldn't make you so easily triggered.

✌️
BroskiTroski
BroskiTroski - 5/27/2022, 9:03 AM
@UniqNo - You’re the one triggered here, my guy. Someone argued against your opinion with their own and you act all attacked.

Also, you are objectively defending the movie, even if it’s just “the parts you liked”. Which is fine, but own up to it.
UniqNo
UniqNo - 5/27/2022, 9:20 AM
@BroskiTroski - I said she was sexy, I never said the movie was amazing. Haha.. I said as far the point of her heels go it was acknowledged in the movie by how her character was perceived by the other and even drew comparison to another movie with the same issue of heels. I saw the positive side of it.. I never defended the movie as a whole..

Argueing a point is all fine, but saying "you people are so easy to convince" is more of your prejudice of another persons opinion who doesn't agree with you.. go sit down son..
BroskiTroski
BroskiTroski - 5/27/2022, 11:00 AM
@UniqNo - You said it was “empowering for women”. I thought that was a stupid thing to say. That’s my opinion. If that hurts your feelings, I’m sorry you feel that way, but it has jack to do with “a prejudice” and everything to do with an opinion.

“Your opinion is stupid and I think you’re easily impressed” is also an opinion. Lol
UniqNo
UniqNo - 5/27/2022, 11:32 AM
@BroskiTroski - prejudging especially an opinion without asking the question 'why' is prejudice.. it's OK if English isn't your first language..

“Your opinion is stupid and I think you’re easily impressed” is also an opinion" - its also childish and not really an arguement in that case and adds nothing to theconversation.

But no it doesn't hurt my feelings you're just not making a good argument, just reason for why your opinion should be the only opinion.. It's seems like you just want the last word here. So I'll give it to you. See you on the next one when you're more willing for a debate.
BroskiTroski
BroskiTroski - 5/27/2022, 6:36 PM
@UniqNo - You’re overdramatic and I already know the context behind your opinion. You’ve explained it. I just think it still stinks.

I don’t care to have the last word, I don’t even know what would indicate that, but whatever excuse you need to move on.

You’re not very good at being honest with yourself.
ChimiFnChangas
ChimiFnChangas - 5/27/2022, 5:50 AM
I wouldn’t worry about it if I were her. The backlash probably just came from fatties whose cankles couldn’t handle wearing heels let alone running in them.
