Awesome PACIFIC RIM UPRISING Images Feature New Characters, Kaiju, And Jaegers

The first Pacific Rim movie was met with something of a mixed response but it performed admirably at the box office and the hope now is that the sequel will do just as well, if not better. Steven S. DeKnight is at the helm of this instalment and an impressive cast made up of up and coming actors like John Boyega (Star Wars: The Last Jedi) and Scott Eastwood (Suicide Squad) has also been assembled.

Now, a new batch of official images has been released and they give us an even better idea what to expect from Pacific Rim Uprising. With even more deadly Kaiju attacking Earth, the battle between them and the Jaegers promises to be nothing short of epic and these stills point to that being the case.

The images come courtesy of the latest issue of Empire Magazine and you can click on either one of the buttons below to check them out. They don't feature any major spoilers but drop some intriguing hints about what's to come and we'll no doubt learn much more as that March 23rd release grows near.

One of the fearsome new Kaijus that will appear in Pacific Rim Uprising, there's no denying that whatever you thought of the first movie, these creatures were definitely a sight to behold.

If the Kaijus are returning to Earth, the giant robotic Jaegers will be needed to counter them. Rumour has it that we may even see some Jaeger vs. Jaeger action in the upcoming sequel.

Scott Eastwood can be seen on the run in this image. Not a huge amount is known about his character in the movie but we know that he'll be playing someone called Nathan Lambert.

Another awesome shot of John Boyega, the actor can be seen here inside one of the Jaegers as he uses some seriously cool looking technology to take control of one of the massive robots.

Director Steven S. DeKnight (Daredevil) is pictured here alongside John Boyega suited up and ready for action. This marks one of his biggest roles to date outside of the Star Wars franchise.

In his civvies, John Boyega is pictured here alongside fellow Pacific Rim Uprising co-stars Scott Eastwood and Tian Jing (the movie was a hit in China so here's hoping she's given a significant role).

This looks like a tough day on set for Jaeger pilots Cadet Suresh (Karan Brar) and Cadet Ilya (Levi Meaden) as they presumably battle one of the sequel's Mega-Kaijus (pictured earlier on in this post).

I liked the first one but I have a bad feeling about this.

Boyega looks awful so far.

Still haven't seen the first one. Is it worth the look?

@TheLight - I haven't either but I've been told by a lot of people it's actually pretty good.

Big machines fighting big monsters. A straight forward story. Explosions. Loud music. Everything falling apart. If Uprising has all this like its predecessor, then it's gonna be a heck load of fun

I'm hoping that if this does well it might raise interest in making a Robotech movie.

I really enjoyed the first one and will catch this. I wish they would use more practical effects though. They should create human-sized Jaegers models, Kaiju suits and city models for the close-ups. I loved the designs and the effects were pretty good in the first one but CG has no weight and at times it feels way too much like watching a video game cutscene. Real models and sets (of the robots and monsters) mixed with CG works so much better.

Steven S. DeKnight has been very accommodating on Twitter about Pacific Rim: Uprising, answering questions and sharing insights...

Really enjoyed the first film (much better than expected) and looking forward to this.
