After the success of the Gareth Edwards’ 2014 Godzilla film, Legendary and Warner Bros. Pictures decided to move forward with Kong: Skull Island –which is set to hit theaters in 2017. After that, they would later go on to announce the long-awaited Godzilla vs King Kong film that is set to hit the big screens in 2020. While the studio says they are confident they “can come up with a rationale to explain how Kong and Godzilla can do battle - and possibly become allies”, they still must tackle “Skull Island”, and ensure that, that film is a success!
While everyone expressed their excitement about the announcement back in October, Legendary Founder & CEO, Thomas Tull recently revealed that he wanted to see the two monsters do battle just as much as the fans do! “I’m juvenile,” Tull said yesterday at Business Insider’s Ignition conference. “I wanted to see them fight.”
With the uprise of many films like ‘Warcraft’, Pacific Rim 2 (which was removed off of Universal’s release calendar), and films of that genre , Tull says he just wants to make sure the studio is a part of the fun. “It’s exciting and we want to hang around the rim and make sure we’re a part of it.” Share your thoughts in the comment section below!
