Toho recently released the first full trailer for Godzilla Minus One, and the Japanese studio has followed-up with a pair of new promo images and a poster, giving us arguably our best look yet at this movie's take on the legendary King of the Monsters.

The stills, in particular, give us a pretty good idea of what to expect from this latest big-screen incarnation of the iconic Kaiju, spotlighting Big G as he does what he does best: destroy anything and everything in his path. The other images feature some of the movie's human characters, and a glimpse of the aftermath of Godzilla's rampage through the city.

Very few liberties have been taken with this new interpretation of the atomic monster, with a look directly inspired by the character's debut in 1954's Gojira. Though there have obviously been a few alterations (the oversized fins, for example), we can't imagine too many long-time fans having an issue with Toho's new version of the gargantuan creature.

Check out the new images at the links below, along with the recent trailer and some previously released promo art.

This will be Toho's first Godzilla movie since 2016's Shin Godzilla. Information beyond the title is sparse, but we do know that Takashi Yamazaki - the filmmaker who worked on visual effects for Shin Godzilla - will direct the film.

Yamazaki recently outlined his original pitch for the project, while explaining that unusual title.

"Postwar Japan has lost everything. The film depicts an existence that gives unprecedented despair. The title Godzilla Minus One was created with this in mind. In order to depict this, the staff and I have worked together to create a setting where Godzilla looks as if "fear" itself is walking toward us, and where despair is piled on top of despair. I think this is the culmination of all the films I have made to date, and one that deserves to be "experienced" rather than "watched" in the theater. I hope you will experience the most terrifying Godzilla in the best possible environment."

Specific plot details are also still under wraps, but a (very) brief synopsis tells is that Godzilla: Minus One "sees an already devastated postwar Japan facing a new threat in the form of Godzilla."

The movie is set to debut in Japan on November 3, 2023 and in theaters in the US nationwide on December 1, 2023.

So glad they got back to the original. Were Godzilla is a monster hell-bent on destroying Japan. That’s where Godzilla really shines. This looks better than the monsterverse movies. Hopefully, there’s no weird quirky Japanese stuff in it, I liked Shin Godzilla, except for when he started shooting lasers out of every hole in his body, when they pumped him full of nitrogen, which was just corny, and then human monsters started coming off of his tail at the end. None of that please just make him up angry giant firebreathing monster.
