This past weekend, the Comic-Con audience at Hall H attending the Legendary presentation were stunned by news of a King Kong prequel on the way. Legendary presented the news by showcasing a special teaser trailer that was created just for the event. The film will open November 4, 2016, but who the heck will direct it?

"I’m told they’ve offered the directing job to Joe Cornish, who has been offered big movies since his low-budget alien-invasion breakthrough pic Attack The Block. I’m not sure if Cornish will take the job because he’s offered so much — like Universal’s Section Six, the Aaron Berg-scripted drama about the formation of MI6 Brit intelligence branch, for instance." - Deadline

KING KONG - Academy Award winning director Peter Jackson (The Lord of the Rings Trilogy) brings his sweeping cinematic vision to King Kong. Get ready for breathtaking action in this thrilling epic adventure about a legendary gorilla captured on a treacherous island and brought to civilization, where he faces the ultimate fight for survival.

KING KONG was directed by Peter Jackson, from a script written by Fran Walsh, Philippa Boyens & Peter Jackson. The cast includes: Naomi Watts; Jack Black; Adrien Brody; Jamie Bell; Andy Serkis; Thomas Kretschmann; and Colin Hanks. With a budget between $207 to $243 million, that film pulled in $550.5 million at the worldwide box office.

Amazing Choice. But taking on a property like this means A LOT of studio input ...which he has not proven he can balance yet or if he has any desire to do so. I think him and Wright should stick to their own or little heard of properties.

I'm in. I was really impressed with "Attack the Block." Imagine what he can do with a bigger budget. "King King" will be awesome!

I told people it was going to be a prequel. Some people said it would be a reboot so that the Godzilla and Kong franchises could mirror each other within the same universe (which isn't a bad idea) but not necessary right now seeing that Zilla is getting his own trilogy.

However I will say this:

There's still the possibility that Kong may have a son out there somewhere. If I'm correct the directors said that Kong was over 140+ years old within the film so a possible son (surviving somehow) could work in today's world. "Son of Kong" would be dope!

@TheRationalNerd

Honestly, It'd be much more satisfying for them to just say some cheesy line like "that was only the baby" (in reference to the ape we saw in Peter Jackson's film).
