THE MATRIX RESURRECTIONS "Honest Trailer" Wonders How Far Up Its Own A** The Movie's Story Can Go

Screen Junkies has released its "Honest Trailer" for The Matrix Resurrections, and as you might expect, they're not going easy on the disappointing sequel to the original trilogy. Check it out here...

The Matrix Resurrections opened to mixed reviews last month, and after bombing at the box office, it's clear this movie isn't going to be the opening chapter of a new trilogy.

There were some things for fans to appreciate, but for the most part, it failed to live up to expectations. That's a point made in this "Honest Trailer" from Screen Junkies. They relentlessly mock Lana Wachowski's return to the franchise, highlighting all the places it went wrong, and just how disappointing it was that Trinity didn't get to be a badass again until two hours into the film.

The ridiculousness of a character called Bugs saying "What's up, Doc?" is mentioned, as are the lacklustre action scenes and heavy-handed messages about the world today. Needless to say, if you loved The Matrix Resurrections, you're probably best off not watching this one! However, one very valid complaint is the shocking state of the visual effects used in the movie.

In our 2* review of this fourth instalment of the franchise, we concluded by saying: "A wholly unnecessary epilogue to The Matrix trilogy, Resurrections retreads old ground, delivers mediocre action, and proves itself a tough pill to swallow despite a decent enough love story that, alone, isn't enough to justify revisiting this franchise. Time for a reboot."

Check out this "Honest Trailer" for The Matrix Resurrections below:

@Cap1 - Same, seems like people are split on this film. It's a film that mocks sequels to big budget franchises. While Spiderman No Way Home is the opposite and totally embraces those consumerism ideals. We all know how audiences and this forum feels about it...

Just got back from Scream and it was exactly like this. Pretending that knowing its own failures exempts it from them. Matrix was a shitload better than Scream though, how that pile of crap got positive reviews I have no idea. Hollywood still has no ideas, now it just makes movies ABOUT the fact that it has no ideas. At least it’s upfront.

@connorblaze - I don't think Lana was trying to exempt herself by acknowledging the failures, just admitting they made mistakes rather than shying away. Although I do agree, it's a bit reductive

What a stinker this movie was.

I wanted to get out half-way through, but unfortunately stayed till the end...

I don't hate this movie, I just wish it didn't exists. And if it did happen to exists, I hope it exists in another dimension of unimaginable horror where it will suffer torture until the end of time. But I don't hate, though.

Pretty funny how Lana killed her own legacy with this film. I actually enjoy Reloaded (nothing compares to the original of course) and Revolutions end fight was kind of cool but this film is so bad that it’s effectively ruined the franchise for good.

That’s pretty sad…. but on the bright side - WB is gonna lose like 100+ million on this thing and that makes me happy because [frick] WB :-)

@TheLobster - watched some video who said this was destroyed on purpose by her so WB wouldn't want to make it an active IP anymore hahaha

@Fogs - hahah I heard the same thing. If true: I would feel mixed about it since on one hand - [frick] WB - but on the other hand… that’s shitty to do to fans of the franchise.

@TheLobster - yeah, totally. I was a hardcore fan of the franchise (except for revolutions)

People who try to defend this film saying it’s great are the same people who try and say the Star Wars prequels are misunderstood masterpieces lolz

@TheLobster - after years and years making fun of the prequel I have to say that given the sequel trilogy it goes easier with me now. Unbelievable how low they went.

This wasn't a great movie by any means, but neither was it as bad as many seem to say. Disappointing in a lot of ways but tolerable overall. I've seen and stayed through a lot worse than this. It basically boils down to individual tastes/likes/expectations.

I had a dream the other night. Don't remember the dream but I do remember waking up from it saying, "GIVE ME THE RED PILL! I WANT THE RED PILL!"

That's all.

The film was [frick]ing trash and hipsters are trying to say its terrible quality was all on purpose💁🤦?

GTFOH.

The director makes nothing but trash but on this film she did it intentionally?

I was fully onboard with this movie and agreed wholeheartedly with everything it had to say about constant reboots and rehashing the same story constantly and mindless nostalgia…………………………….. for the first 40 minutes.

After that, the movie takes a nosedive and does everything it was shitting on other movies for doing in the first act (accompanied with a needlessly convoluted rescue plot and weirdly terrible effects).
