The
Star Trek franchise has come a long way since the days of
The Next Generation, but Patrick Stewart's Captain Jean-Luc Picard remains a fan-favorite character and one of the most popular
inhabitants of The Enterprise's iconic captain's chair.
Now, it seems the beloved captain might actually make an appearance in CBS' current series
Star Trek: Discovery - at least, that's what Stewart appeared to imply during an interview with Red Carpet News TV.
Speaking to the publication, Stewart was asked if he had seen the latest show to which the actor responded coyly,
"No, I haven't. But I may have good cause to look at it very soon."
It's an incredibly vague response, but that hasn't stopped the internet from running wild with speculation that Stewart will somehow return to the franchise in
Star Trek: Discovery. Of course, how the series would handle the character's appearance is the big question.
Star Trek: Discovery is set ten years before the events of the classic series, but season one ended on a cliffhanger with the crew receiving a distress call from the Enterprise, helmed by Christopher Pike. Now given Stewart's age it would obviously be hard to have him play a younger version of Picard, so are we talking about some sort of time travel? Let the speculation begin!
Star Trek: Discovery is now available to stream via CBS All Access in the United States.
