As for his thoughts on his successor in the role of the USS Enterprise's Vulcan first officer he said, "He's a terrific actor, he looks the part, and it's time to give him some space. And I'm very flattered the character will continue."

Nimoy went on to say that his retirement will also mean that he'll be cutting back on appearances at conventions and fan events.

That sucks, but he is pretty old, nothing wrong with wanting to kick back the rest of your days.

Hey he had an amazing career and a huge fanbase to this day. If I were to be going out thats how I would want to do it. Props to the guy and hope he has an awesome retirement. Probably trying to lessen the chance that a fanboy will get his DNA. LMAO. jk

I'm a bit dissapointed he wont be making another appearence as Spock but the man has put in some serious time as our favourite half-Vulcan and he deserves to do what he wants and take some more photos or what ever else he wants! :D

Im glad to hear this. Leonard Nimoy is an incredible actor and he will always be the definitive Spock but as Nimoy says it wouldnt be fair on Zachary Quinto. He is Spock now and having another older Spock from the future would confuse things.

Although Im very glad Nimoy was in the newest Star Trek movie because it was a great way to link the new franchise to the old one and it meant it wasnt a total reboot

Well all I say to Leonard is "Live long and prosper"

good one Skyhook. I am so glad I met him when I did. He was a true gentlemen and he was so accommodating to his fans. I still need a pic of him autograph so I better get a move on.

As someone who was minimally into Star Trek before the newest one, I think Zachary Quinto is great for the part of Spock and even better that he has Nimoy's blessings. I loved that they brought Nimoy back, but I'm glad he's stepping down, he knows when to let someone else have their time to shine and that's an honorable trait.

It's about time that he retired. The man has been in the spotlight for so many years as a Sci-Fi symbol. He needs to kick back and relax. I bet he'll wear some Spock ears at his home, sometime, though. The only "Trek" I like is the new film, but as a fan of Sci-Fi: I salute you, Mr. Nemoy. V

I hope you have a better experience meeting Timm than I -- he sure was a grumpy gus, but I guess many introverted artists are, when confronted by crowds.

I was thinking the same thing...I hope he still Do Fringe because he is perfect for the roll.

I guess he can show up for a few episodes here and there. Cool that he is working with the same writers for star trek and fringe.

He was great. Just finishing up Star Trek TOS. And I was quite surprised at how entertaining it was. Star Trek reboot was my first Trek experience and after watching TOS I agree Zachary Quinto was the perfect cast. I hope Mr. Nimoy continues as Bell on Fringe as it is one of my favorite shows right now.

I am in about epsiode 8 9 of Season 2 of ST TOS. Nimoy is great. Epsiodes were just like when I was kid when I first saw them. Someone today said that the ST TOS,
was too plastic for him. I said "That is because of your age. You grew up with generation, so you are going to think ST TOS is too old and out of date. You still should watch it to see what it's all about and why everybody says it's classic."

Like many have said: He's going out on top. Better to leave well enough alone. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. No use beating a dead horse. Etc, etc.

From what I know, his primary hesitation before was that he didn't want to be known just for "Spock"... and (before Star Trek) he didn't like the direction the franchise was going in.

I guess Abrams rectified things well enough and finished off the "alternate dimension Spock" satisfactorily at the least.

Really, his exit in Abram's Trek is eloquent and highly poetic. It is all that was ever needed and will ever need to be said. He rides off into the sunset (or should I say flies off into the galaxy), and leaves room for young Spock to progress.

But we all know in the end - 100+ years down the line Nimoy will still be known for Spock. He was and will forever be a class man, and a class character. Spock is an immortal legend, thanks to Nimoy.

@Brent you lucky [frick]er ! =) I can't believe it's on top of us...

Definitely need to get a Shatner cameo, and the cast from Next Generation in the next two anyway. Still alot of fun to be had with the old cast/s.

He past his torch, I think he wanted to make sure his legacy was in good hands. After the first two series things went down hill, now it's up again.
