Karl Urban is currently at San Diego Comic-Con to promote his new comic book movie
Dredd, in which he stars as the 2000 AD character. Speaking with
Coming Soon earlier today, the actor - who plays Dr. Leonard "Bones" McCoy in J.J. Abrams'
Star Trek - briefly discussed the upcoming sequel. Earlier this week, Urban told a reporter for SFX Magazine that Benedict Cumberbatch's villainous character is (
spoiler warning) Gary Mitchell. Coming Soon asked Urban about the controversy, to which he didn't have a direct response to.
"I'm really not at liberty to discuss anything about Star Trek. All I can say is that I did that interview after a 22-hour flight from New Zealand. I literally hopped off the plane into the interview."
But far more interestingly, Urban suggests that (contrary to prior reports) footage from the highly anticipated sequel will in fact debut at the Con.
"I can promise you that before the end of Comic-Con, some exclusive Star Trek footage, it's going to come out. You're going to find it. It's going to come out." A few weeks back, co-writer Alex Kurtzman said that
Star Trek 2 (not the final title) wouldn't be featured at this year's SDCC due to the fact that the film has recently finished production. Could Paramount be planning a surprise panel after all? Be sure to check back at CBM for future
Star Trek 2 news.
Star Trek 2 is set to hit theaters May 17th, 2013. The sequel stars Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Benedict Cumberbatch, Zoe Saldana, Karl Urban, Alice Eve, Simon Pegg, Anton Yelchin and Peter Weller. You can next see Urban in Lionsgate's
Dredd 3D on September 21st.
