Hey this is sort of a "bad comment" but I just thought that i'd ask anyone who has a steam acount to look me up. I'm called Fatt-Smelliott and I have a nerd clan and we get together occassionally for games and chats. So if you'd like to join that would be great.

Sorry for the advertisement... anyway this looks awesome as i've read lots of good reviews unlike our X-men friend!!!!

Also in Star Trek if Eric Bana could go back in time why didn't he save his home planet?

Just uploaded my review.

This movie was awesome. I give it a perfect 10; 2 thumbs up.

I honestly didn't have anything bad to say about it; It POSSIBLY could have been longer, and I wanted to see a little more character development, because all of the actors/characters were DAMN GOOD.

...oh yeah, and for all of you Anton haters out there; he played Chekov perfectly. ...and his Rusky dialect was great also. I speak Russian; it is my second language, and I also know alot of Russians. Besides, Anton's parents are Russian. So, I'm pretty sure he has a pretty good grasp of the Russian tongue/dialect...just saying.

Anyway, it was great...go see it if you haven't already.

just saw it an hour ago and just thought it was ok. maybe my expectations were to high, but it just didn't blow me away. the cgi was great, the casting and acting was good, but i just didn't like the story. sorry to spoil the party. looking forward to inglorious bastards, sherlock holmes and public enemy #1. maybe terminator will live up to my blockbuster standards, but i doubt it.

I wrote a review in another thread but its well worth writting again. This movie was written perfectly, the first ever seprequal. Loved the movie, a solid 10 out of 10 easy. I have never seen a better casted movie remake. I cannot think of one single bad thing about this movie. Nemoys part in the movie was wonderful and its full of small things that will make the most dedicated trek fanatic pee their pants. To be truthful shatner is secondary to the new James T Kirk. I have seen the movie in the theatre 2 times now, and with prices the way they are thats saying something for me. I am very suprised that it has not taken in more at this point. The action was perfect, the acting was brilliant and the visual aspects of this movie was stunning. If you have not seen the movie its a must see.

I agree Grif. It is time to bring back Khan.

They can redo the original Star Trek episode "Space Seed." That would be awesome. I would really like to see how Abrams portrays Khan in one of his movies; you know he would be bad ass.

I also wouldn't mind seeing a movie with a different type o villain; I was thinking that maybe they introduce a Gorn villain. You might remember the Gorns as that giant lizard (with the zipper on the back) that Kirk ended up dueling against; it is one of the classic Trek episodes.

...but I have a feeling the next movie will be focused on those damn Klingons.

grif-- i agree. Khan was classic!

I dont want to write a huge review so i'll do it here. JUst saw it today. I love the idea of the new timeline. Urban killed it man. SO like Bones without being a charicature-like impersonation. Kirk, awesome. ALthough, he's not as boyish as everyone made him out to be. His face is a little haggered and scarred. I like he new spock. He's less reserved and has that bottled up calm like a bomb attitude. I also like that the Spocks meet each other. Old spock gets to stay home to help replenish his race. Heh heh! For the good of the people.

Uhura is hot in that little shorty kinda way and alot more useful these days. Scotty, Chekov, great.

I only had tiny problems like spock chasing away the huge monster with a torch. I guess being on a frozen snow planet, fire is pretty rare. That was my only gripe though, way better than wolverine.

The movie was great loved it. not preachy a whole new twist to the Star Trek franchise a new birth has begun now that the Vulcans are now an endangered species could this lead to more involment of the Romulans?
And how about that Uhura and Spock romance didn't see that one comming .
can't wait for the next one to film.
I liked that they included the first Capt. Cristopher Pike ,,,how cool was that?
This movie brought forth a fresh start to the franchise ,,an alternate Star Trek Universe.
hopefully we'll see Klingons in the next one!!!!

It was a fun romp, but not as good as I had anticipated. The deviations from TOS didn't ruin it for me the way it would for a Trekkie (Trekker? The debate continues I guess...), but I found that they were harmful in some ways. I think the way Nimoy's Spock struggled with emotion versus Quinto's was much more subtle. This provided a little more mystique that was lacking (IMO) in this interpretation. Kirk got his butt whooped too much. In fact, I don't think there was a fistacuff fight that he won in this. And Bana was the biggest disappointment. Too cliched. I know he's better than what he gave. The deliveries were great by everyone else! I would even say flawless, save Bana. I could tolerate this new direction, but I think some of the elements that they altered were what gave the original it's charm.

Oh well, I know I'm in the minority here judging by the other posts. So I'm gonna get grief for my critique. But I think my points are valid and I will stand by them unless I can be proven that they are not.

I kinda agree with all reviews. Even Phinehas. I as a fan of TOS (started watching as a teen) and know most trivia thought it was awesome. The only part that was a goof was with young Spock with the bloody lip with "red" blood. Vulcan's blood is green. Other than that anyone saying there was diversion from the original, of course there was. The whole story, as Old Spock told young Kirk during the mind meld is an alternate timeline. Also keep in mind if the franchise is to be re-energized...pardon the pun:):) There has to be these types of differences to appeal to this Generation...dare I say "The Next Generation"?:):)

The ideas and concepts are great to be passed on, and of course additional revenue, but if you don't get their attention.....

the blood was green in the movie i saw, so they did at least get that right.
Phinehas
Phinehas - 5/10/2009, 12:51 PM
Yes, the blood was green when I saw it.

As far as the topic of deviations go, at what point does something take on a new face such that it is totally different and unrecognizable from the original, when you might as well change the title? This vision pushed it right to the edge. With Spock with his emotional outbursts to his romantic (a la emotional) relationship with Uhurra, to a wimpy Kirk. Actually, those three things were the only liberties that I didn't care for. Note that my exceptions have little to do, if at all, with the alternate timeline. Especially Spock! I didn't even like that Spock the elder was so laissez aller with logic vs. ethos as he approached Spock the younger in the hanger. In TOS, his staunch grip on logic coupled with McCoy's overthetop emotions, and Kirk's steadfast ability to find the middle ground was a dynamic that made it so interesting. Without those elements, TOS would have been mere paperplates with a felt backdrop.

Will they find a similar relationship in this new one that will keep me and others coming back? We'll see.

Eric Bana's character accidentally went back in time... but my review would be.. The goal of Wolverine Origins, was succeeded in Star Trek. They tried to work extremely hard for a quality and very fun film for people without knowledge of the prior stories. One was done well the other was not. Star Trek was done very well with few flaws, as Wolverine was done poorly but still ended up being a fun film. JJ Abrams is indeed the next generations most talented director and may soon contend with the greats with what he is showing us is inside him.

i dont care if they do more movies only if the original story of star trek isnt afected ever!!!
being a trekie i didnt like the ship design, i didnt like the fact vulcan was destroyed.
but since this ia a alternate time line its ok.
but i watched how bad star trek was tarnished with Enterprise so i hope Mr Abrams is careful cause this franchise is hanging by a thread and im sure there is more upset trekies then me.

Ok, so I just saw the movie with my son. I am a diehard "Trekkie". Started watching original series at age 10 and never stopped. This movie was absolutely entertaining and on the mark. The alternate universe theme makes sense (it has happened before several times). It was a nice and smooth way to keep the interest of the old fans. Young Kirk is perfect as someone finding his way, struggling to find his niche. It makes sense that young Kirk should be immature in his star fleet days. Young Spock has to struggle more with his human side, his struggle should become more subtle as he grows older. The story was well written and I loved that included the little things that made the TOS so popular! Remember, this alternate universe is not written in stone. Who knows, in the next movie older Spock may share the technology to go back in time to save Vulcan and Romulus and then Kirk can grow up knowing his father therefore become the more self assured captain we have all come to know and love! One thing is for sure, my 12 year old son loved it and looks like he too will be as big a fan of Star Trek as his proud mother! Definitely a must see. Don't cut it into pieces just enjoy! At the theater today people were clapping and cheering through the whole movie and in the end they all stood and clapped--now thats a review!!! Can't wait for the next one!!!

Kirk did get his ass handed tohim quite a bit in the movie, but the first time was by 5 guys, and the others by dudes that are twice his strength so its understandable!

Why must everything today be about redoing old stories? Khan was greatness. Remaking it would be an insult to the memory of Ricardo Montalban. If and when a sequel is made, how about some original villains (as in new) rather than rehashing old ones?

I am not a Trek fan myself i only ever watched the classic episodes when i had days off from school. but this movie has changed everything for me i loved this flick. Definitely a 10/10. The action was fantastic, the cgi was perfecto, and the acting was great. Just got to say Kirk is way hotter than Shatner! And Bones was so damn hilarious (I loved the "Damn It Jim!")
Seriously, i never thought that Spock and Uhura would get together.
This movie has changed it all for me, can't wait to see more, JJ is a freakin' genius!
