Doing the rounds for his recently released movie Man Up, Star Trek 3 co-writer and actor Simon Pegg was quizzed on the likelihood of William Shatner popping up in the film. "William Shatner is an amazing actor, and has such an incredible body of work which transcends just his time as Captain Kirk," he tells Digital Spy. "It's always about whether the story's right. It's pointless crowbarring these things in as a gimmick, because that does the story and the film a disservice. But I have no doubt in my mind that he could play Captain Kirk until the day he decides to goes off to the final frontier."
Last week, Pegg briefly mentioned Paramount's apparent concern that a past script for the upcoming third instalment was "a little bit too Star Trek-y", which generated a feeling disappointment for some fans. However, in this interview the writer/actor shuts down claims that he was brought on board to make the movie less 'Star Trek-y', explaining that he is aiming to make it "as much Star Trek as it possibly can be". "I'm kind of getting tired of having click-bait headlines reduce the things I say to easily objectionable comments. I didn't say that. I didn't mean that, certainly." Pegg also reminds us that 2016 serves as the franchise's 50th anniversary, and reiterates that it's "important to [him]" that Star Trek 3 does the series justice. What do you make of Pegg's comments here?
