What Direction Will The Star Trek Sequel Take?

Superstar scribes Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman let us in on what Ideas are floating around in their billion dollar brains.

J.J. Abram's re imagined Star Trek is still in theaters and doing better right here in the good ol USA then in the international community. The Abrams helmed Star Trek more then doubled what the last Star Trek movie did in movie theaters domestically but is not lighting the world on fire liked they hoped for with the international audiences. However Star Trek did well enough to spawn a sequel.

Super scribes Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman tell SCI FI Wire that they're already thinking about the sequel, and they know what their dilemma is: whether to come up with an original story or go back into Star Trek lore to retell a story that's been hashed out before.

Please do something new!!

Despite what they do the writers say that they have learned a few lessons from their first Star Trek outing:

"I think the major lesson we learned is that fans were willing to accept differences and surprises, provided that they were somehow echoes or inspired by canon," Orci states. He added: "We still have to be true to Star Trek the next time around, but we've also been blessed with being able to be unpredictable. And that doesn't mean we can just be shocking for no good reason and just throw everything away. ... It still has to echo everything that Star Trek has been."

Right now the super scribes do not have a clue what the story will be about:

"We have agreed to write another one," Orci states. "We're going to start thinking about it any second now. But we're still just having a mental sorbet before we jump back in. And, you know, just seeing all the reactions to the movie. We want to make sure we take it all in and really figure out what worked and what didn't and proceed from there. But now that we have an open canvas, anything can happen."

Orci and Kurtzman also wrote the upcoming Transformers sequel Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen it opens June 24. How many blockbuster movie can one pair of yahoos write? As long as they are successful, then I say keep em coming!!! Super Scribes,,Up, Up, and away. Hopefully after the Star Trek sequel is written WB will sign them to write a GOOD Superman script.

Can they stop making these movies and just lay down and die in recognition of the fact that Star Wars is better?

Yeah, Star Wars WAS better..right up until Lucas analy raped his own legacy with The Phantom Plot. That new Trek movie blew those new prequels out of the water.

I hope they do a whole new story..although part of me would love to hear Kirk shout KHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAN once again!

The new Star Trek was more entertaining than the past two Star Wars combined.

The Klingons looked different from the original series is because they experimented in genetics to make them look more human so the federation would accept them in their ' family ', in my opinion!

@Teabag---GEORGE LUCAS got that name, when he was on the toilet and counting the butt-nuggets he was dropping at the time. So, Legend has it. LMAO :)

in terms of star wars
Episode IV: A New Hope
The Empire Strikes Back
Return of the Jedi
Episode III: Revenge of the Sith
these were awesome...the other 2 were just horrible.
I would watch this new star trek again. It was entertaining which a lot of folks didn't expect from a Trek movie.

Return of the Jedi. All I have to say is Ewoks. They were complete bullcrap. To me there are only two good Star Wars movies, with the other four having memorable scenes and sequences. Star Wars, and The Empire Strikes Back. I don't even call them Episodes because I don't want them associated with the other piles of crap in my mind.
MarkCassidy
MarkCassidy - 6/19/2009, 10:49 AM
Aside from the ewoks, and the ending in general, Jedi was still a great movie, but yeah, Empire and A New Hope are much better. Sith was good..thats all, it should have been so much better and could have been if they hired decent actors and screen writers. The other 2 are dead to me, i dont even want to say their names! sob
selinakyle
selinakyle - 6/19/2009, 10:56 AM
Ewan MacGregor, Sam Jackson, Natalie Portman....these are more than decent actors although sam is kinda typecast. Its the direction of the movie. Compare Natalie's performance in a movie like closer to her performance in Sith and all those other ones which i don't even want to think about.
KeepItReal
KeepItReal - 6/19/2009, 11:14 AM
oh man.. Ewan McGregor... cant go wrong... guy is FANTASTIC... he was about the only thing I liked about the movie... The movie was alright but it lost the magic it had in the first 3 I saw to me anyway...
MarkCassidy
MarkCassidy - 6/19/2009, 11:18 AM
MsKyle08 your right, aside from Christiansen they have all been good and great in other movies. I guess they were just directed badly, or just phoned it in, or i dont know! There has to be a reason they sucked so much ass in those movies, i spent most of my time in the theater rolling my eyes when anyone spoke!
SabretoothTiger
SabretoothTiger - 6/19/2009, 11:30 AM
i think that all the star wars movies were good i mean you could say maybe the first was mediocre and kinda cheesy but the second one had plenty of action and most of the actors from the 3rd were in the 2nd and 1st so i dont see the problem really they were enjoyable to me...i do agree that they shouldve kept darth maul around for longer though when he killed qui gon i thought this guy is a bad ass

the best part in revenge of the sith was when anakin put on that mask and took his first breath....i literally said out loud in the movie theater.."oh shit"
SabretoothTiger
SabretoothTiger - 6/19/2009, 11:44 AM
and to talk about the article hahah the new movie was bad ass i love the scene when spocks homeworld is gettin destroyed the way they filmed that was amazin but i think that they could do somethin similar to what they did in the first just take some original ideas and put little spins on them and what not
Stumblin
Stumblin - 6/19/2009, 11:44 AM
All three of the prequels of Star Wars blew. They didn't have the charm the original had, instead relying on cheap, way over the top, and expected jokes, the dialogue was just unbearable. The acting was absolutely terrible, except for Obi Wan, and select few, but all in all it was all crap. I refuse to ever include this in my DVD collection, their will only be IV, V, VI in my opinion, the new three episodes never happened.

Granted the lightsaber fights were good, but that's hardly enough to hold this movie on any pedestal of achievement.

SabretoothTiger - 6/19/2009, 12:08 PM
@ stumblin: you say that the prequels were filled with expected jokes and unbearable dialog well obi wan was the one sending most of those horrible "zingers" and his dialouge sounded the most phoned in out of any of the actors except maybe qui gon they may not have had the same exact feel but thats what a prequels for to show a beginning and not the exact same thing as the older movies but you are entitled to your opinion i just wanted to put that out there

Klingons...need more Klingons...lol
I love the romulans...the smart and ruthless cusins of Vulcans.

Not sure if I am ready for Kahn just yet...I think we still need to establish this new crew of space pioneers.

Klingon betrayal or something...
I wonder if they would use the ols school klingons after Kahns mutation to look like humans (shown in Enterpise final season) of the current Klingons.

ID LIKE TO SEE SOMETHING THROWN INTO THE MIX THAT THE OLDSCHOOL TREK NEVER HAPPENED UPON...WHAT IF THEY WERE THE FIRST TO HAPPEN UPON THE BORG?
Macksimus
Macksimus - 6/19/2009, 3:22 PM
Of course, they should go in a new direction with these movies, but that doesn't mean that they can't introduce past characters from the old episodes.

Khan is the franchises biggest and baddest villain. If anyone deserves a role in this new altered universe, it is him for sure.

I would like them to just use some of the concepts, plots, and characters from the first two seasons of the original show, and apply them to the silver screen; that way they could ensure that they can appease the older hardcore fans and at the same time be doing something completely new.

They could use blue people from the original series

As for star wars it has so many plot holes its not funny do you know Dark Vader was never suppose to be Lukes dad he was just suppose to be a Robot.
