Star Wars: New Animated Series To Be Set After Jedi, Movies Heading To Blu Ray

Lucasfilm Director of fan reactions Steve Sansweet made some Star Wars related announcements at the C2E2 convention in Chicago over the weekend...

First, and not really surprisingly, Sansweet announced that the awesome original trilogy..and those other movie they made will be coming to Blu Ray with all sorts of lovely extra stuff. He didn't give a release date but says “it won’t be in the too distant future.” IGN Blu-Ray quotes Sansweet as touting the set as being “a very full set … with lots of extra material” including “real treasures, like all kinds of scenes from dailies that have never been seen before.”

Sounds cool..until the next set comes along with even more previously unreleased stuff of course! Anyway, bigger news then came with the revelation that the upcoming animated series will be set after the events of Return Of The Jedi. After a fan commented that he “would really love to see new adventures after Jedi with our favorite characters Luke, Han and Leia,” Sansweet replied, “And you will, in the new animation.”

This is from Bestofluckproductions.com following on from the announcements at C2E2..

So there it is folks. We will definitely be seeing Luke, Leia, Han, and Chewy again in new adventures.

I have no idea if this will be all original material or based on the expanded universe... so don't ask. This is all I know.

Oh, there was one ominous thing he said though... not everyone who dies in sci-fi stays dead. He continued by stating we'll see what he means in 3 to 4 years.

3 to 4 years? Ah well. I can only hope with all my heart that this isn't the same animated series that was announced last week.. the "situation comedy" one! But many sites feel that it probably is:( Just another example of Lucas and co coming up with what seems like a great idea and then sabotaging it completely. I don't know about you, but I'm not really interested in seeing what happens to Luke, Han and co as seen through the eyes of The Robot Chicken crew...well, I kinda am..but I want a serious take on it more dammit!

First VHS, then DVD and now Blu-Ray... I'm really hoping that the next format for movies is about 60 years away so I won't have to worry about it.

I think The Clone Wars cartoon is better than those prequels! ..but still not great. Lee, the next 3 eps in live action form..NOT DIRECTED BY LUCAS, I would love. But obviously they would have to recast everyone..theres a fan fic for ya!

Well, it's great to hear that I'll finally be able to buy the original trilogy on blu-ray but I'm not so sure when it comes to all these new series' they're planning..! Still, I'll give the animated adventures of Luke, Leia, and the rest a chance but this rumoured sitcom if it is actually a different thing just has fail written all over it IMO!

Guys, check out my ASSASSIN'S CREED II Fan Cast!!! Just click the link!!! :)

Well, theoretically the original cast could return, but it would obviously be the OAP adventures. Ford proved he could still play Idy again(In a lousy movie but still) so i'm sure he could Solo. But the likes of Hammil now looks bloated and reeeeally old..I don't even want to think about Carrie Fisher. Just bring back Ford and Billy Dee Williams and Chewie!

@SraFisher Uranus. lol

@Ror I don't think any of them are any good! (Clone Wars and Prequels) Also Clone Wars kinda contradicts the Revenge of the Sith, does anyone else realize that? Okay in order to train a Padwan, from what I understood, you needed to become a Jedi master. The council didn't make Anakin a Jedi master, he was only a Jedi Knight. They also didn't trust him enough to join the council. So why the hell would they give him a Padwan to train?? Pisses me off a little bit.

@Teabag Wow... That's lame. lol. *hugs* Not you the fact there's Star Wars plant food.

I sure Lucas keeps the original, or copy, negative in good condition. Have you seen Blade Runner on Blu? That transfer shows that a old film can be restored to pristine condition for release. I'm just hoping Lucas and friends took full potential of Blu-ray. Meaning a great transfer and 7.1 lossless audio. And that someday, in the near future, he, restores, and releases the unaltered theatrical prints!

making Episodes 7, 8, and 9 would be pretty close to impossible. i don't think there are many fans that would be willing to accept a different person playing such classic characters. i think it would be destined to fail before it even got started. which sucks, because the things that happen in 7,8, and 9 are pretty cool.
SraFisher
SraFisher - 4/19/2010, 9:48 AM
no randy apparently you dont know the star wars covers...i'm gonna need you to take a time machine back to the 70's and look at the posters at the theaters

i hope they base it off the expanded universe.
i'm still trying to figure out where the new Clone Wars series fits in or if it' alternate.
MarkCassidy
MarkCassidy - 4/19/2010, 9:56 AM
Nah I could accept it providing they did the characters justice. And by that I mean keep Lucas away from every single aspect of it! I know that sounds strange considering he created the characters but he has undone too much of his good work now. Although, in fairness, the actors in the prequels are all actually good(possibly with the exception of Christianson), they just sucked in those films. Give it to Whedon:)..(waits anxiously for a Fillion for Han Solo shout of disgust from Tea!)

IG, yeah true enough, I guess I just found the cartoon a bit easier to take because I didn't have very high expectations..and seeing Bobba Fett back in action and stuff is pretty cool..but they should have been a lot better.

Provided that Lucas has nothing to do with writing the script or directing, I think they could pull off 7, 8, & 9 without recasting and actually make it good. All they would need to do would be spend a ton of money (which they have) and use Cameron's motion capture 3-D technology. Then they could use what is now the bloated carcasses of the original cast, but make the characters look how they did in the 80's. Best of both worlds... provided Carrie Fisher hasn't completely lost her shit.

Okay...time to weigh in...

@InstigatorGirl: You're a bit off base, dear. It's not that you have to be a Master to take on a Padawan. -Usually- you have to train a Padawan to Knighthood to become a Master. There have been exceptions throughout the EU wherein a Knight was elevated to Master rank without having taken on a Padawan, but these instances are few-and-far-between. Once you are a Master, you aren't prevented from taking on a Padawan, and many still kept the tradition of teaching up long after they were promoted.

It's possible that you are getting a bit confused; you frequently see Padawans referring to their teachers as 'Master', but that is more a term of respect than rank. Make no mistake, many teachers were actually Masters, so it was both a term of respect and an acknowledgement of their rank.

No insult meant, dear...I'm just letting my Nerd show a bit.

@LEEEE: I agree with you wholeheartedly, my friend: "STAR WARS is what STAR TREK wishes it could ever be!!! : D". Let's draw a line in the sand, and start the Trekkie beatings!!

@Lucas: Need 7, 8, and 9...and need them BEFORE you start other projects. To quote Johnny Depp in 'Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas'..."Finish the F@ck!ing story!!".
