Does This STAR WARS EPISODE VII Casting Call Hint At A Certain Wookie's Return?

A UK casting and auditions website has posted a casting call for an actor for J.J. Abrams' new Star Wars flick, and the description they give is practically growling "Chewbacca"! Have a read for yourselves after the jump and see what you make of it..

A new casting call has gone out on the UK website Spotlight, looking for a male actor over 7 ft tall, giving way to rumors that the makers of Star Wars Episode VII are looking for a new Wookie...presumably Han Solo's trusty companion, Chewie. It reads: ‘Male, 7 ft to 7.3 ft tall with a slim/thin build and upright posture. Not too worked out or too ‘thick set’ especially in the shoulders. Broad facial features would be a bonus.’ Now the casting call is for an "UNTITLED STUDIO FEATURE", but the production date is listed as "early 2014", with the producers credited as "Kathleen Kennedy, JJ Abrams, Bryan Burk, Tommy Harper (Exec)" -- so it seems pretty obvious which movie it is. Original Chewbacca actor Peter Mayhew recently underwent knee surgery and won't be running around a galaxy far far away anytime soon, so IF Chewie is to be a part of the new series of films, it makes sense that they'd be searching for a replacement. What do you think?

JJ Abrams: You will bring Solo and the Wookie to me.

I believe it's a Wookie, but it doesn't necessarily mean it Chewbacca. If we get Chewbacca back or if we get another wookie, I'm happy either way.

Chewbacca always looked hideous to me, IF he or some other sort of Wookie will star in Episode VII, please let the make-up be A LOT better!!!

Well I love Chewy but I'm hoping he's not going to be in episode 7 since he died in New Jedi Order. I know these new movies are going to erase the continuity set in the novels but a guy can always hope not, right?

@jerec, they are mostly likely erasing that. too hard to dodge bullets there. sorry. movie adaptations will always be first and foremost canon. And to be honest I didn't like half those stories in the expanded universe after ep 6

How the hell does Han & Lando understand Chewbacca?
Is there an online language course that teaches his native tounge?
Chewy is a good mechanic too..did he go to a tech college to learn?
So many questions..

@Sameoldthing - last night I found a book my friend's kid has that was literally "How to Speak Wookie". It had buttons you could push to make different growls and everything. It was awesome!

This person could do all the running around as Chewbacca and when they have close-ups of Chewie sitting in the Millennium Falcon, it can be Peter Mayhew.

Uh, Peter Mayhew is still alive. Sure he's got a busted knee but if he's up for it, he should get first crack at Chewie.

@ your comment was just dumb as hell. Just cuz he doesnt speak english is no reason he should be killed off. Hes a classic character and a beloved character.R2 doesnt say shit either yet these are two major characters in the OT. Thank God you have no say in anything that has to do with star wars.

If the casting call is for Chewy (or another wookie) then why would the actor need "broad facial features"?

Wookies can live to be 400 years old. Chewy was about 200 in A New Hope.

I did a story about knee surgery, and explained that he could be back on his feet by end of Dec begining of Jan. Shooting for Ep. 7 starts
near the end of Jan.

This could be a casting for a Chewbacca double though.

With the ages of the original actors, this could also be a casting for either Lumpawaroo (also known as Waroo or Lumpy and is Chewbacca's son)

or Lobacca (Chewy's nephew who is also a Jedi Knight and friend to both Jaina and Jacen Solo).

@youhappy...Chewie is a wookiee and wookiees have an extremely long life span. In the extended universe he lived to see han's children become adults. Personally I hope they do the right thing and kill him in the process of saving anakin Solo and after that bring on the jedi Knight Lowbacca

Wookiees are the only species in the star wars universe that are both primitive and have their own space fleet

@ sameoldthing - I don't know why, but the Emperor enslaved the wookies because they were really good with mechanics, electrical, and computers. He used them for Imperial jobs. Kind of funny though because they live in giant tree houses and keep there space very organic. All of those pouches on Chewy's belt hold small tools to work on electronics. Infact, Han freed Chewy after Chewbacca freed hundreds of his race from being prisoners.

Wookies throats make it hard for them to speak basic, but they can understand it. Suposedly, once you're around a wookie long ebough you can understand them. Lobacca (a jedi) used a translator droid that Chewy made and C-3PO programmed to help him communicate with other jedi students on Yavin 4 at Luke's academy.

Chewbacca is also known as being onj the small side for a wookie. But he is a national hero for helping to free his species and is known for extreme bravery.

Why would they not just bring Peter Mayhew back?
First the young Han Solo and now this? Worrying.
Also, I don't know when this is set, but didn't Chewie die in one of the books?
Timerider84
Timerider84 - 9/23/2013, 11:34 AM
Chewbacca should have greying hair in Episode VII, I totally agree with that. Would be cool to see Lobacca or Chewie's son/family in this as well. It could be Chewbacca's wife for all we know. If Han,Leia and Luke all have families, why can't the Wookiee.
WackyBantha
WackyBantha - 9/23/2013, 11:41 AM
Perhaps they are just trying to find a suitable replacement actor just in case Peter Mayhew does not recover in time from his knee surgery. Or.....Would you feel more comfortable checking his knees on set for your Director? Finding out, only then, if Peter Mayhew is able to go. Knowing, only then, whether you've accomplished your mission and obtained the one true Wookiee?
ndwwrestler2
ndwwrestler2 - 9/23/2013, 12:15 PM
@DukeAcureds Could be that Peter Mayhew just had knee surgery.

Besides, are we really gonna be able to tell that it's not Peter Mayhew as Chewie? Let's be honest with ourselves, replacing Mayhew isn't the same thing as replacing Ford, Fisher, or Hamill.
