Joss Whedon had expressed interest in directing the new Star Wars film, but he is not going to run Star Wars episode VII because of the sequel of the third highest grossing film of all time The Avengers. The interviewer asked him what characters he would bring back from the original series and what he would want to see.

"You know, I wouldn't go back, I'd go forward. I would want to create characters that would resonate the way they did." "But that's, you know I mean not I wouldn't want to see them, I'd be excited to, but I also feel like um I'd want to explore very different part of that universe."

The interviewer also asked Joss Whedon about the rumor of a potential Han solo standalone film. "No, that I'd never wanna do, some things may not be rebooted." Joss Whedon said.

Yeah keep to AVENGERS :P

He would be awesome at Star Wars but cant have too much on your Hollywood plate!

Yeah agreed, never reboot STAR WARS... Hell if they ever remake the original trilogy, I'm personally done with Hollywood!

Cant wait for 2015...

AVENGERS 2, STAR WARS Episode 7 and (fingers crossed) JUSTICE LEAGUE!!!

Omg that's going to be the biggest year ever for blockbusters movies, maybe never that big again!

To be honest, I wouldn't mind if they rebooted it all. Remake the original trilogy as close to the original as possible, get rid of the incest and the Ewoks, finally wash away the stink of the prequels and just start over

Meh he got lucky with Avengers... I cannot stand his Tv style cinematography, which was very blatant at times during the Avengers.

WTF are some of you guys talking about? Rebooting something as great as TOT is out of the question. It's like rebooting the godfather series, there's no need.

Whedon knows what he's saying. I get it...I'm a SW fan...I can't stand the prequels and believe me,I don't want to see the same characters making a comeback just to please fans. That's what [frick]ed the prequels up. The idea of Vader was interesting enough without knowing what his past was. And goes the same for Luke,Leia and Han, we don't need to know what happens after Return of the Jedi. It's not movie-material.If anyone wants to know what happened:Extended Universe.
I'm really not hating on the fans who like the prequels and Clone Wars or are excited about seeing the original cast coming back for the next movies.I'm more excited about the stand-alone movies than Episodes VII-VIII-IX, and so is Whedon as far as I can tell.

I bet FIREFLY would have been more successful if it had been called (MILLENNUM) FALCON and given a more PG sensibility.

Good. I like it how he says he would move star wars FORWARD. It seems now a days some fans dont want it to move forward but instead just stay in the past *like they dont want new things they just want to see the old things over again*. I want Star wars 7 to be NEW, not rehashing old things just for nostalgia/fan service sake *which means no god damn OT cast as the main leads, time for new characters*.

he's excellent at everything he touches, but if he were to direct some star wars episode, expect half of the cast to die horribly for no reason at all =)

if they dont focus too much on the original characters, new ones could be developed just as well... easier said than done though

I agree Han Solo played by someone else. Just not into it! It would just be another prequel and a disappointment.

I think some here don't seem to understand what Joss is saying. He's saying no to that Solo idea but yes to Episodes 7-9. Maybe he could direct Episode 9. He has to be careful he does work for Disney.

You have to include some of the original cast or have characters that are linked to the original trilogy as it parts 7, 8 & 9 of a 9 part saga so the story has to be linked somehow. I agree that the Jedi are nothing more than space hippies now and the force has been raped. However I'm glad JJ Abrams is directing he was my number 1 pick.

Caps suit is the worst costume in comic book movie history....

I like Cap's suit in all the MCU movies so far.

Anyways on the topic of Star Wars. I've never liked them nor have I found them interesting. Boring is more the word for it. I appreciate what it did on the technological side of film but, that's it. I never liked Star Trek either until the 2009 movie and that's it. I'm glad they rebooted Star Trek and I hope Star Wars does the same and actually becomes good and interesting.
