More Possible Details On 'Luke Skywalker' In STAR WARS: EPISODE VII

We've heard quite a few rumours regarding the last Jedi Knight (Mark Hamill) in J.J. Abrams' Star Wars flick, and most of them point to him being out of the picture in the years leading up to the events of "Episode VII". Now we might just have some more very interesting details..

It's hard to know what to believe when it comes to Star Wars spoilers, because even if the info is coming from a usually reliable source, multiple script changes and director J.J. Abrams and his "mystery box" shenanigans often lead to a lot of false "scoops" floating around on the interwebs. But that being said, one thing that's common in pretty much everything we've heard about the character of Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill) is that he's been AWOL since Return Of The Jedi, and will pop up again on some remote, deserted planet. But will he be there against his will or by choice? What of the suggestion that he may be inching towards dark side of the force by the end of this movie? This Is Infamous claim to have a few answers. Possible SPOILERS ahead.

"From what I’ve been told, Luke hasn’t been missing for a full 30 years, only about 10, with his early time post-RETURN OF THE JEDI being spent rebuilding the Jedi Order. Yeah, Luke had some things to do, in order to help get things back on track after the fall of the Empire. In addition, he has grown so powerful with his command of the Force that he can literally move mountains or bring down ships with merely a glance. But then Luke begins to feel a disturbance in the Force… and starts to feel the lure of the Dark Side. If word about the Emperor’s resurgence is true, I believe his presence and desire to court young Skywalker once again is the root of this new evil. Because he knows just what a danger he would be if successfully convinced to switch sides, Luke goes into a self-imposed exile and disappears."

And where does he disappear to? Apparently it's Yoda's old stomping grounds, Dagobah, where the late Jedi Master first trained Luke. According to the site, this is where he'll be reunited with his lighsaber by some old and new friends. Like everything Star Wars related, we'll have to take this as a rumour for now, but if true, what do you guys think?

Not really a fan of him gaining god-like powers like that, but I do like the idea of a self-imposed exile because he's afraid of turning to the dark side. It really lends more of a tragic hero aspect to him, because he's aware of the danger he could pose and so he's self-sacrificing (which is heroic)...but if the rumors are true and he ends up "changed" by the end of the film, well there's the 'tragic' aspect.

Definitely makes him seem like more of a well-rounded character...stuff like that is no where to be found in the prequels, so this is good news to me.

Yeah if this report has validity, multi-layered acting with a proper motive/s from the seasoned old-guard cast should make the new trilogy heads 'n' shoulders above the prequel's cardboard acting.

@SimyJo, Definitely! After the prequels, this new trilogy has nowhere to go but up, but it's nice to get some hints of just how much better it could be, at least from a writing/acting aspect.

Sounds to me like they'd be going for a "sins of the Father" motif, and hoping that makes bank. I'm also puzzled why a being that was created by the midi-chlorians, so being damn near pure Force would end up being less powerful than Luke, who merely inherited *some* of Anakin's midi-chlorian count (split between him and Leia)? Last time I checked, Anakin couldn't move mountains nor drop ships at a glance. That irks me to have the SWU try to convince the viewers that someone who had less than half Anakin's count would actually be exponentially stronger with the Force.

Yep. That bothers me.

So I'm hoping that this report is just bunk and wishful thinking. I like the premise of a tragic hero just like anyone else, but within reason of proper narrative and not just tacked on because *reasons*.

I wonder how they are going to handle the light saber duels. Will people be doing quadruple somersaults like the prequels? Or will it be more slow like the original trilogy?

First of we'll have none of that midichlorians rubbish round these parts!- this is a PROPER StarWars thread ^^.

But your point explored I'd say because although Anakin may of been more powerful (if your genetic dilution theory stands) - then I'd say although he may of potentially of been more powerful, Luke has had decades longer to hone his potential and explore The Force - so perhaps his knowledge and mastery of it has grown him more knowledgeable and powerful in his exercise of it.

I'm good with faster prequel-paced duelling as long as all that fancy twirling posturing is cut out - as that was lame as hell.

@BigDaddyJinx, I honestly think they're disregarding any and all references to midi-chlorians in this new trilogy. They're most likely acting like that never even happened...because to most fans, it didn't haha.

Aside from being unimaginably stupid in the first place, it makes no logical sense anyway. So midi-chlorians are passed down from parent to child? What about that infamous "No falling in love, no spouse, no children" rule that the prequels established the Jedi to have? Did EVERY Jedi just break that rule? Then what was the big deal for Anakin to be with Padme then? Ugh, just mind-numbingly stupid all-around.
