It looks like we might have some idea of what to expect from the plot of the Obi-Wan Kenobi movie that's currently in the works.

The guys over at TMZ reckon they've come across some story details via the latest issue of Production Weekly, and, if accurate, it looks like the film will follow the exiled Jedi on Tatooine after the events of Revenge of the Sith, and leading directly into A New Hope.

“Obi-Wan is on Tatooine being an elusive hermit and stuff, but secretly watches over an infant Luke Skywalker, whom he delivered to his uncle, Owen. Tensions between the local farmers and a tribe of Sand People — headed by a ruthless war chief — eventually brings Obi outta hiding … and into Jedi kickass mode. Scene.”

The time-frame is not exactly surprising - after all, we can hardly catch up with the character after A New Hope - but that stuff about the Tusken Raiders sounds like it could be interesting. That said, this does sound more like the premise of a short film than a fully fleshed-out big-screen adventure.

The report also claims to have confirmed that Stephen Daldry (The Hours, Billy Elliot, The Reader) has signed on to direct the project, which is currently using "Joshua Tree" as its working title.

We'll obviously have to treat this as a rumor for now, but if this did wind up being the general gist of the story, what would you guys think? Sound off below.

@Doomsday8888 - there is a cameo in Solo of a particular character that would make an excellent antagonist for a solo Vader film.

I always thought film wise, there is no real anatagonist that can happen in a Vader film. Canonically he faced obi wan and Ahsoka + we can't have another Sidious testing him story. The add the fact that he is too powerful to have him go up against a random Jedi.

However, this character could provide a worthy challenge to Vader, and lines up canon perfectly.

My most anticipated Star Wars movie to be rumored. Of course I'd love some stories set pre-Skywalkers, but Disney doesn't seem too keen on exploring that far in the past in the films. Definitely seems to be all spinoffs for legacy characters, then moving forward with their original characters (Rey, Fin, etc.).

Yojimbo in space. Do it.

@BlackBeltJones - One thing I wanted to do with a Kenobi film is something Yojimbo expertly dies but thanks to the prequels, I can’t

Remember how when Sanjuro entered the city with the dog leaving with someone’s arm?

The film ends Sanjuro leaving with someone else’s sword

If Lucas didn’t give Obi-Wan his lightsaber in 3, I would’ve had him losing it & using a lightsaber from a slain Jedi someone has as a trophy

God I want to direct & write a Kenobi film

I want Ewan MacGregor as Obi Wan. Accept no substitutes!

@GeneralZod - Obi Wan has certain traits that cannot be changed. The problem with this Disney stories is that you run the risk of having another Luke (Jake) scenario. Should that be the case, then I'd rather they hire another actor so Mr. Mc.Gregor doesn't get under the wheels. More and more, I get the impression that the purpose of this products is so that Mrs. Kennedy rewrites the stories of the original characters to her vision/agenda.

So Disney was looking at my comments on the story I’d plan

In all seriousness, I hope there’s more meat than that. Stuff like Obi-Wan suffering from PTSD from the Clone Wars. Obi-Wan abandoning the Jedi way due to the feeling all it got him is the place he’s in now. Him not being able to sleep at night blaming himself for Anakin’s turn. Him at first not helping others but the Skywalker & feeling conflicted as he wants to help others but knows if he’s revealed, people will come for him & he has to remain hidden to protect Luke

This film could be a masterpiece if done right

@LEVITIKUZ - I'm really hoping they explore the GUILT he feels about Anakin and feeing as if he failed him.

@BlackBeltJones - So true especially considering this

Sounds a bit like the one-off Star Wars #7 by Jason Aaron

This film could be special.
