Possible Details On Palpatine's Rumored Return In STAR WARS: EPISODE VII [Spoilers]

Earlier this week, a rumor surfaced online claiming that Ian McDiarmid will reprise his role as the villainous Emperor Palpatine in Disney's Star Wars: Episode VII. Despite being killed off at the end of 1983's Return Of The Jedi, many have speculated that the character will be resurrected (possibly as a clone, as shown in the Expanded Universe). However, Latino-Review weighs in with what they've heard, confirming not only Palpatine's return in the 2015 sequel, but how exactly it will be done. The site also reveals another potential tidbit that heavily hints at the movie's plot. (Warning: the following may contain key SPOILERS from Star Wars: Episode VII. Do not read past the image if you don't want to be spoiled.)

-Palpatine comes back as a Force Ghost..like Obi Wan. (Sith Lords learned similar techniques, which in some cases allowed them to physically interact with their environment.)

-Palpatine will not be a clone, not in human form.

-Palpatine had a new apprentice before he got killed.

-Once again not going by any books. Not one thing they have in the script is from a book.

Set to begin filming early next year in the UK for a Summer 2015 theatrical release, Disney and Lucasfilm's Star Wars: Episode VII will be directed by J.J. Abrams from a script by Michael Arndt.

I can live with that. I'm just happy that they aren't ressurecting him or making him a clone

This makes more sense than the clone thing. He could come back like Darth Bane and Darth Nihilus did in Star Wars Legacy.

I like the idea of him being a Force ghost but not sure how I like him having another apprentice before he died. Don't the Sith have the Rule of Two, meaning that there can only be a master and an apprentice? Did Palpatine forget that rule or was he going to kill Vader?

Ugh I hate this type of retcon. Yes, it isn't directly destroying any continuity, but obviously, there wasn't supposed to be an apprentice he was training. Why can't we just get a new threat not related or tangentially related to the sith? It's a large universe. Take a page from Doctor Who

I hope this stays a rumor. I trust Michael Arndt based on the genius of Toy Story 3 and LMS not to screw this up.

If he'd had another apprentice besides Vader, why was he going after Luke? The question is more why would he have another apprentice when his plan was to get Luke

I'm also unsure whether to believe Latino Review.
However, force ghost I'm fine with. New apprentice - really? I'd prefer a bad Skywalker or Solo.

@ Gusto - That pic of the rocks was funny.

I'm gonna call bull on this from Latino Review. They either hit it out of the park or completely f' up with their scoops. It doesn't make sense. I think Abrams will go a different route. Could Palpatine have a secret Sith Apprentice? Yes. He had several Hands of the Empire and the Royal Guard were force trained, so he might have found one student worthy enough. It would make sense if he was an image in a sith holocron, or if he died in a tmple or something. But he died in the second Death Star which was destroyed. His spirit would be tied to that, not roaming around freely.

The thing that worries me, Lucas liked the expanded universe and didn't want to contradict things. Now that he's not in charge, can we expect that continuity from the books to go out the window? What I mean is, after Return of the Jedi, Palpatine came back. He transferred his consciousness into a clone body in the Dark Empire series. So, are they gonna change the story, and create a separate timeline? It worries me because I really enjoyed almost ALL the books. The only ones I haven't read are the newer series.

Blech. This would be a truly foul sign of what awaits us in these films-- if they have to bring Palpatine back, even as a ghost, then they must truly bereft of ideas for how to keep this series going...

'Course, I don't believe this for a second, but... well, stranger things have happened.

The force ghost technic was a skill used by the wills or whisps or something. Qui-Gon Jinn and Yoda were practicing it before he was killed by Maul. In Ep.2 whenAnakin is killing the sand people you can hear Qui-Gon Jinn screaming "No Anny". He never finished the training, that's why he never became a spirit, or "one with the force". Yoda perfected it and taught Obi-Wan who practiced it while in hiding on Tatooine. That's why they were both spirits in the movies. Anakin/Vader was never taught the technic, so he should not have been a spirit. Writers of the books and comics not understatnding this, put it in books and comic books. There are some Sith Force Spirits, but they are allways tied to something grounded in the real world.
