Rian Johnson is still doing the rounds to promote his new movie
Knives Out and, as you might expect, his
Star Wars trilogy has been a hot topic of conversation. With David Benioff and D.B Weiss no longer developing a trilogy of movies for Disney and Lucasfilm, there's been a lot of speculation that Johnson's trilogy will become a priority.
If so, he doesn't appear to heave heard anything about it!
"We’re still engaged with Lucasfilm and we’ll wait and see," Johnson said, confirming he remains in talks with the studio.
"No updates on it at this moment, but yeah."
That's obviously a very vague update, and considering the fact that
The Last Jedi is widely blamed for a decrease in interest in the
Star Wars franchise, Lucasfilm may have some reservations about handing Johnson the keys to the kingdom. After all, "creative issues" between the studio and filmmakers appear to have become the norm in recent years.
On another note, Johnson actually credits some of the social media backlash he's received with inspiring his work on
Knives Out.
"Anyone who’s on Twitter these days, God bless you because it’s rough waters out there, but there’s also wonderful stuff about it. That’s why we’re all still on it I guess. That’s one of the things [Knives Out] engages with, the current state of online culture."
"Whether you made a Star Wars movie or you have a cooking show, whatever you’re doing on there, someone’s going to be screaming at you about it probably," he continued.
"Let’s put it on a screen in a way we can all maybe have a laugh about it."

Star Wars trilogy?
