ROGUE ONE: A STAR WARS STORY Is Getting A Sequel (But It Won't Be A Movie)

Yes, A New Hope is technically the Rogue One sequel, but a new novel promises to delve into the ramifications of the spinoff and specifically what happened to the men who followed Saw Gerrera...

Lucasfilm has revealed that they're releasing a sequel of sorts to Rogue One: A Star Wars Story in the form of Inferno Squad, a new novel by Christie Golden which is set to be released on July 25th. Taking place shortly after the events of the spinoff, the focus will be put on a team of Imperials tasked with taking down the reamining members of Saw Gerrera's extremist group of Rebels.

For more on what to expect from this tale, here's the officially released synopsis:

The Rebellion may have heroes like Jyn Erso and Luke Skywalker. But the Empire has Inferno Squad. After the humiliating theft of the Death Star plans and the resulting destruction of the battle station, the Empire is on the defensive. In response to this stunning defeat, the Imperial Navy has authorized the formation of an elite team of soldiers, known as Inferno Squad. Their mission: infiltrate and eliminate the remnants of Saw Gerrera’s Partisans. Following the death of their leader, the Partisans have carried on his extremist legacy, determined to thwart the Empire — no matter what the cost. Now, Inferno Squad must prove their status as the best of the best and take down the Partisans from within. But as the danger intensifies and the threat of discovery grows, how far will Inferno Squad go to ensure the safety of the Empire?

It doesn't sound like the most necessary of stories, but it could be a really interesting look at how the theft of those plans shook up the Empire and the ramifications of the deaths of both Rogue One's heroes and villains. The Partisans is a group we didn't spend a whole lot of time with either, so learning more about how they operate also promises to be a lot of fun.

Will you guys be checking out this latest Star Wars novel? With the latest offering a depressing end to Jar Jar Binks' story, there's clearly something for everyone in these now in canon stories, anyway!

@Yaf - Arguably a movie focusing on an unknown group of Empire spies would have been better than Rogue One where we knew that they were going to succeed.

@Scarilian - I dunno, just because we knew the ending doesn't mean we didn't have a helluva time getting there.

@BrettMan -

It'd be more enjoyable not to know the ending though. If you know where things are going then you expect them to end a certain way.

Interesting. I hope we get the Rebels reaction to Jyn and the characters of Rogue One during this.
