During last night's episode of American Idol, Disney and Lucasfilm premiered the new trailer for Solo: A Star Wars Story. Despite the numerous reports we've been hearing about what went on behind the scenes (the whole movie was reshot, basically), the signs are now pointing to this being another fun Star Wars adventure which will be well worth checking out when it hits theaters next month.

Like the teaser which came before it, the new trailer sheds a lot of light on what we should expect from Solo and the big reveals in this one come thick and fast so we're now breaking them all down.

From the movie's lead villain to surprises relating to characters like Chewbacca, Lando Calrissian and Qi'ra, you'll find everything you need to know here as well as all the trailer's best moments. So, all you guys need to do is click on either one of the buttons below to check out this list in its entirety...

Well, It's Definitely A Heist Movie

The first few seconds of the trailer make something very clear; at its core, Solo is definitely a heist movie (which is a little strange when Rogue One also was but let's just roll with it for now). There may be a lot of Western-inspired imagery here but this origin story is clearly a caper and it's easy to get an Ocean's Eleven sort of vibe due to the fact the group even appears to have a wealthy target.

Han Vs. Lando

It appears as if Han and Lando's first meeting will come during a not so friendly game of Sabacc and while there's been some speculation that this could be the moment Han wins the Millennium Falcon, that seems unlikely given the dialogue from this scene at a later point in the trailer.

Is Han going to get crushed here only to make up for it later by winning Lando's ship? That's one possibility but it looks like we're getting something of a rivalry between these two before friendship blossoms. The only question is, will that happen over the course of this movie or off-screen?

Friends Reunited

The first teaser for Solo pointed to Han and Qi'ra having a fair bit of history and training together - possibly in the Imperial Academy - during their youth. These two embarking on very different paths in life is pretty much confirmed here as we see them reunited for the first time and whereas Han has seemingly embraced a more rebellious life, Qi'ra may be enjoying the benefits of the Empire.

The Target

When Ron Howard came on board this movie after the firing of original directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller, he made a few changes, including scrapping the motion-capture character played by Michael K. Williams. Was it because Disney and Lucasfilm wanted to save money or did he simply have something different in mind for how the movie's big bad - Dryden Vos - should be portrayed here?

Whatever the answer may be, we get a first look at Paul Bettany's version of the character here and he's definitely not the "half mountain lion, half human" mo-cap character Williams recently described in an interview. Instead, the "big shot gangster" is just rocking some nasty looking scars.

Han Gets His Blaster

It's pretty obvious that this movie will explore a lot of first for Han but could this moment be the one where he first lays hands on his now iconic blaster? Woody Harrelson's Tobias Beckett takes a good look at the weapon before passing it on to his protege but it's entirely feasible that he's just inspecting it and that there might be a different story behind where the smuggler finds his signature gun.

The Galaxy's Best Smuggler...For Now

Qi'ra calls Lando Calrissian "the best smuggler around" but that's a title we know Han Solo is gunning for! As with everyone else in this movie playing characters from the original trilogy (not that there's that many), there's been a lot of doubt about Donald Glover being able to hold a torch to Billy Dee Williams but he's doing a great job as the character here and should be a lot of fun to watch.

Han Picks His Side

Tobias Beckett makes it clear that if Han chooses to come with his group, he'll be "in this life for good." The character is presumably referring to being a criminal/smuggler, something we know the future Rebel hero embraces. However, it seems as if there will be some conflict within him here.

Taking this path doesn't appear to be what Han originally wanted and so it will be interesting seeing how this movie both deals with that and what exactly leads to him turning his back on the life he may have envisioned for himself (though it's possible that his rebellious nature made a life of crime and later battles against the Empire an inevitability). Regardless, this origin story looks like it will flesh out the character in a big way and while some fans deem that unnecessary, it could be great.

The Millennium Falcon

Han looks very pleased with himself as he steps on board the Millennium Falcon for presumably the first time but while there's no shortage of very cool looking action sequences featuring the iconic ship here, we're still no closer to how it goes from looking like that to such a hunk of junk!

L3-37

Played by British actress Phoebe Waller-Bridge, it looks like L3-37 has the potential to steal the show in this movie as the droid rattles off numerous one-liners and gets in on the action in a big way here.

The trailer also makes it clear that she's somehow associated with Lando but seeing as there's no sign of her in The Empire Strikes Back, we should probably assume she meets her maker in this movie...

The Train

There have been rumblings for a while that a large chunk of Solo will revolve around an action scene set on a train and it's here that we get our best look yet at "The Conveyex." Whether or not the thing this crew is looking for is actually on there isn't clear but it seems likely and poor Chewie will seemingly be put in serious peril - which he obviously survives - based on that final scene in the trailer.

Who's The Traitor?

Beckett tells Han that he should assume everyone will betray him but who will be the traitor on this team? Considering the fact Han and Lando are on relatively good terms when they meet up again in The Empire Strikes Back, we have to assume it's one of the new characters being introduced.

That leaves us with a lot of different names to choose from but considering the fact none of them pops up in the original trilogy, they're all either going to die or be shunned by Han by the time the credits roll. As a result, like Rogue One, no one bar a few people should be considered safe.

Love For Chewbacca?

As you may recall (or have probably just blanked out), we met Chewbacca's wife Mallatobuck in the infamous 1978 Star Wars Holiday Special. With Solo set to pay a visit to Kashykk, are we going to see that character make her big screen debut? I think we might and that not only gives the Wookie a much more important role to play here potentially but gives him a more detailed arc.

"I've Got A Really Good Feeling About This"

Well, this is an interesting twist on, "I've got a really bad feeling about this." That line has been said in every Star Wars movie but whether or not we'll hear that as well obviously remains to be seen!

Regardless, this is a fun line and one which will probably backfire on Han and his new friends given the various predicaments it looks like they will all be finding themselves in over the course this movie.

Chewbacca's Age

At the time Solo takes place, Chewie is going to be the ripe old age of 190 years old! That's a pretty sizeable reveal for a trailer but one which opens the door to the character's past being explored further down the line as he's been around longer in the Star Wars Universe than both R2-D2 and C-P3O.

Lightsaber Tech?

Chances are the Sith and Jedi will be sitting out of this one but has the villainous Dryden Vos got his hands on technology which is somehow connected to them? As you can see, he's wielding some weapons which seem to use lightsaber tech and him having a history with either one of the aforementioned religions might go some way in explaining those scars. We'll just have to wait and see.

@HeavyMetal4Life -

I like the Western look of it, hopefully they don't make Han too sanitized

Also, I wouldn't be surprised if the Sith shows up in some capacity, however small...

@HeavyMetal4Life - Do we only have two choices? Emperor or Vader?
HeavyMetal4Life
HeavyMetal4Life - 4/9/2018, 12:06 PM
@ChangAlang - hmmm, I think I'd rather see the Emperor in this film, I think he would fit in better.

ChangAlang - 4/9/2018, 12:15 PM
@HeavyMetal4Life - Yeah same if they’re the only two to choose from.

C’mon Star Wars nerdists...Would there be other Sith Lords during this time period?
HeavyMetal4Life
HeavyMetal4Life - 4/9/2018, 12:23 PM
@ChangAlang - I don't think there were other Sith Lords during that time period, but I could be wrong. I believe that since the Sith follow the rule of two (a master and apprentice), its impossible to have more than just the Emperor and Vader, unless the apprentice trains his own apprentice (which was the basis of Starkiller).

@ryguy88

You ready for the playoffs? Seeing the Pens and Flyers get matched up in the first round was a pleasant surprise. I thought for sure we'd have Columbus.

We both know how this series is going to turn out.

@blackandyellow - yeah man! I mean, the pens are probably the worst possible matchup for philly but Im just happy I get to see some playoff hockey. Your D and goaltending is vulnerable though so it should be a fun, high scoring series!

@SimplyAz - Season 2 is already out, my friend. Last week was probably the best episode of the series so far.

Awesome show. One of the best comedies on cable TV right now.

@L0RDbuckethead -

Not in England unfortunately dude, also there's no premier date set for it.

It's such a fantastic show, that Season 1 episode during the talkshow had me laughing my arse off.

That was the best episode of Season 1 for sure!

That was sorta a rough headbutt from chewie on that other wookie, so it may not be a female. Sorta hoping it turns out to be Lowbacca.

Pffffffffft. Like Disney would try to win back any EU fans.

New trailer didn’t budge me one way or another. Still don’t buy Han. And I thought Don would sound a lot more like Billy Dee.

We’ll see...?

@regularmovieguy - None of the trailers have made me want to spend money on this movie.

It's possible the gangster might be a collector or dealer in Jedi and Sith antiquities, it's pretty clear in various instances of the new canon that these things are insanely valuable thanks to the Jedi order basically calling dibs on anything with a kyber crystal in it and later the empire doing the same, als in the Lando miniseries it's stated that the Jedi basically erased as much of the Sith from official history as they could in an attempt to discourage a possible revival (of course they didn't know the Sith didn't go extinct as they thought) which also makes any kind of Sith artifact valuable for rich collectors.

@DetBullock - This would be a nice tie-in to the sequel trilogy. Hoping this turns out to be true.

"The trailer also makes it clear that she's somehow associated with Lando but seeing as there's no sign of her in The Empire Strikes Back, we should probably assume she meets her maker in this movie..."

None of these things can be automatically assumed since we know their are plans to direct multiple sequels, lots of these threads may not be wrapped up in this film alone.
DetBullock
DetBullock - 4/9/2018, 9:45 AM
@aflynn - Also, they are smugglers.

Lando was working alone in Rebels (which should be some years after this IIRC) but in the Lando minisieries it's hitned that he knew Lobot for quite a while even though we don't see him in Rebels, L33-7 might be one of many temporary allies he had over the years rather than his droid.

I liked Donald Glover until he started pushing the "angry, victimized black guy" thing.

Anyway, expect this movie to continue the steep downslide that TLJ started.
