SPIDER-MAN And CHERRY Star Tom Holland Recalls Disastrous Audition For Finn In STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS

Spider-Man star Tom Holland is doing the rounds to promote Cherry, and the actor has recalled how badly his audition to play Finn in Star Wars: The Force Awakens went. Find out more after the jump...

Tom Holland may be best known for playing Spider-Man in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but it sounds like he came close to joining another major franchise. Well, perhaps "close" is something of an overstatement.

The actor admitted during a recent interview that when he auditioned for a role in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, he completely botched it by cracking up at the person playing BB-8 in the scene they were performing.

"I’ve had quite a few," Holland told Backstage when asked about disastrous auditions. "I’ve read the wrong lines at the wrong audition before. I remember my audition for [Star Wars: The Force Awakens]. I was like four or five auditions in, and I think I was auditioning for John Boyega’s role."

"I remember doing this scene with this lady, bless her, and she was just a drone. So I was doing all of this, like, 'We gotta get back to the ship!' And she was going, 'Bleep, bloop bloop, bleep bloop.' I just couldn’t stop laughing. I found it so funny. And I felt really bad, because she was trying really hard to be a convincing android or drone or whatever they’re called."

"Yeah, I obviously didn't get the part," Holland added. "That wasn’t my best moment."

John Boyega obviously ended up playing Finn in The Force Awakens, though his experience with the franchise was very much hit-and-miss. Ultimately, Holland dropping the ball during his audition probably worked out for the best, as his role as Spider-Man has opened a lot of doors for him, including video game adaptation Uncharted and the new Russo Brothers movie Cherry

Do you think Holland would have made a good Finn?

They did Finn dirty, but I still like Boyega in the role. Think I couldn't buy Holland as the defecting stormtrooper

@Waddles - normally I'd tell you to please not remind me of broom boy, but I can actually see what you're saying this time

Dodged a bullet. Most pointless role in all of Star Wars

Spent first movie chasing Rey

Spent second movie in a pointless plot that stopped him from looking for Rey

Spent the 3rd movie yelling "REY!"

@dracula - Yeah, I don't blame Boyega for being salty after how the franchise treated him. Finn's character could've been cut from the trilogy and practically nothing would've changed in the over-all story. What little he had to do in FA could've been given to Poe's character.

Really don't think he is right for a role in Star Wars

@dracula - Don't agree Star Wars is such a vast universe, there's a part for anyone.
Holland would have done great as a young Jedi apprentice.

Matter of fact his type is exactly the one they cast Mark Hamill for as Luke

@dracula - nah, I could see him as a young Luke Skywalker type character.

Daisy Ridley and Tom Holland could actually play siblings.

@SnideCut - I'd pay good money to see them in a buddy cop film. Chaos Walking may be good, so I'll check that out I guess.

''Bleep, bloop bloop, bleep bloop!''

''I just couldn’t stop laughing.''

Damn I wish they recorded it, I'm laughing now too.

Interesting that Disney didn't cast a specific ethnicity for that particular character. That's actually a really positive bit of news there, they didn't cast for race but for the best fit. Good on them!

As for the character of Finn, he had SO MUCH POTENTIAL. I mean, a former Stormtrooper that has moral qualms about his profession? That's a whole movie right there! They did the character dirty by relegating him to a side-character with bland motivations.

In general a former Stormtroopers POV would be great to explore, I really enjoyed Bill Burr's character in Mandalorian. Hope we see more former Imperials question their deeds.

@Blergh - thats how I think Hollywood should handle diversity from now on. If you don't have a particular vision for the character in mind, just keep it open for all races. Choose who's best for the role.

Of course for this to work we also need to have the audience accept that in some cases the best for the role is white. I'm just not sure that would happen.

Lando Calrission: Baron Administrator of Cloud City, became a major part of the rebellion and destroyed the second Death Star.

Mace Windu: Member of Jedi Council and was the only Jedi to stand any chance in their fight against the Emperor.

Finn: Janitor turned storm trooper who doesn't do anything, then is forced to join the rebellion and spends 3 movies chasing a girl who he doesn't even get

Yeah modern Star Wars is so much more "progressive".........

@dracula - Star Wars is often two steps forward two steps back.

Could've been a half-decent Ben Skywalker if they was going the whole "Legends" route.
May as well, cause Kylo was basically Jaden Solo anyway

So Finn wasn't even written to be black. Interesting.

Cherry seems to be a pretty divisive film. And the embargo is one day before release. Sus.
