STAR WARS: Boba Fett Actor Mark Austin REALLY Isn't Happy With Disney Renaming Slave I

Actor Mark Austin played Boba Fett in the "Special Edition" of Star Wars: A New Hope, and he's taken to social media to express his unhappiness with the decision. Trust us, he's really not pleased!

You may not be familiar with Mark Austin's name, but he suited up as Boba Fett in the "Special Edition" of Star Wars: A New Hope. He also played the iconic Bounty Hunter in the No Disintegrations series that was launched in 2017, and clearly feels a sense of ownership over the character.

We recently learned that Disney made the decision to rename Slave I as "Boba Fett's Starship," and while a reason hasn't been given for the change, it's likely because many companies are moving away from terminology like "slave" and "master" in the wake of last year's #BlackLivesMatters protests.

Regardless, Austin has taken to Twitter over the past couple of days to express his feelings on the matter, and he's clearly unhappy with the iconic starship losing its classic moniker.

A lot of fans are disappointed with the decision, but it doesn't necessarily seem like the end of the world - though you wouldn't know it based on reactions like this.

It's unclear how this name change will be reflected in live-action, but The Book of Boba Fett likely won't make any mention of "Slave I." Then again, you could probably count on one hand how many times it's been referred to by name!

The ship’s name isn’t mentioned in the movies so most “fans” won’t care. General public never new the name. You can’t change history, but the victors will rewrite it or in this case rename it.

@DR3D - Damn you’re right, I wonder if the name was ever even mentioned in any of the series..

@Waddles - So it’s not even that big of an issue lol I was never a die hard Boba and Slave 1 fan anyway.. although I do find it dumb, the character is a murderer and yet it’s his ship’s name that is the issue.

I mean, I get it. You're angry. But putting DMV above Disney? Now that's bold.

Anyway, I think the fans will keep calling it the Slave I. Just like how the Knights of Ren ship is actually the Night Buzzerd, Grievous' starfighter the Soulless One, etc.

Got the idea this is only a problem, because people are making it a problem because other people see it as a problem.

A man we never know existed is Extremely Mad Online about the name of an imaginary space ship we'd never heard the name of

Heavy snowflake vibes

@OmegaDaGrodd - so I'm assuming then that the original name of the ship never bothered you and you would be just fine leaving it the way it was?

OmegaDaGrodd - 6/30/2021, 7:28 AM
@Ryguy88 - Correct

Ryguy88 - 6/30/2021, 10:07 AM
@OmegaDaGrodd - then I would also assume that you would get "heavy snowflake vibes" from those whom Disney is "protecting" by making these changes.

OmegaDaGrodd - 6/30/2021, 10:59 AM
@Ryguy88 - Nah, I wouldn't call that "snowflake" behavior, but there's definitely a similarly mocking term for people who feel overly strong that the name needed to be changed. Stupid? Silly? I don't know. We'll workshop it and figure it out.

Ryguy88 - 6/30/2021, 3:48 PM
@OmegaDaGrodd - anything overly sensitive and delicate suits the term snowflake just fine I think. And getting you pout on over the name of a space ship definitely fits. Not the mention a certain level of ignorance to think that there is even a cause for concern to begin with.

Origame

Yeah, this whole thing was dumb. Are people overreacting? Probably yeah. But it's a dumb change in the first place. He's a bounty hunter who did work for a galactic mob. He most definitely is responsible for turning people into slaves. If this were Luke Skywalker ship I'd understand. But this isn't a good character, and slavery isn't something we should just pretend doesn't exist.
Deonox
Deonox - 6/29/2021, 5:13 AM
@Origame - I get what people are saying but I dont think this is them "pretending that slavery doesn't exist", I genuinely think that hey... they don't want to market a toy as Slave1. Anakin was a slave, and so was Leia for a time period. That's not going away, it might seem unnecessary to us, but at the same time i get it
Origame
Origame - 6/29/2021, 6:43 AM
@Deonox - well I mean they're making a whole show about the character who named it that. And yes, this is definitely an example of that. Boba makes people into slaves. That's who he is.

These comments are predictably childish and rude. I came here expecting discussion and dialog, and I see over half the comments are people disrespecting a man rather than discussing the topic.

"Old man yells at cloud"

"Who cares what he thinks"

"A man we never know existed is Extremely Mad Online"

"He stood in front of a green screen for ten seconds..."

Why I continue to expect better of the people on this site..... its my fault, really.
