STAR WARS: Mark Hamill Plays Coy When Asked About Possible Return In Daisy Ridley's Upcoming REY Movie

Star Wars icon Mark Hamill has been asked outright if he'll return as Luke Skywalker's Force Ghost in the upcoming movie revolving around Daisy Ridley's Rey, and plays surprisingly coy about his future...

In past interviews, Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy appeared to close the door on younger actors replacing those who played the original Star Wars trilogy's most iconic characters. However, she also insists the Lando series starring Donald Glover is still happening, so your guess is as good as ours when it comes to the studio's future plans

The point is, Mark Hamill appears to have (mostly) closed the door on playing a young Luke Skywalker again, so where does that leave the beloved Jedi?

Well, Ms. Marvel director Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy is going to helm a Star Wars movie that will see Daisy Ridley reprise her role as Rey. Now a Jedi Master, she'll be looking to create a new Jedi Order while attempting to combat the dark forces that rise up to stop her.

There have already been rumblings about Luke's Force Ghost appearing in the movie alongside another familiar face, and Hamill played coy when Esquire (via SFFGazette.com) asked him about possibly returning as Luke in the movie.

"One thing you learn working for Lucasfilm: everything is confidential. Everything is confidential," he teases. "So, if I were involved, I wouldn't be able to tell you. And if I were not involved, I wouldn't be able to tell you. So, I don't know. We'll all find out together, I guess."

Well, that sounds somewhat promising, anyway.

It's hard to say for sure, but the studio appears to be taking this movie seriously and has likely already reached out to Hamill if there's a place for him as Rey's story continues. While The Rise of Skywalker went into damage control mode with Luke's Force Ghost, this project stands a chance of really making things right.

We don't have a confirmed release date for the project, but prior to the WGA strike, the expectation was that it was targeting a December 2025 theatrical debut.

Hopefully, we'll get some official casting news sooner rather than later!

When everyone thinks that Luke will appear, it will be Palpatine who appears as a specter of the dark side.

@Repian - honestly, I think that would be pretty cool. Kinda like Darth Bane in that Yoda arc in The Clone Wars

@Repian - I kinda feel like that's how he should've appeared in the last movie. Show that they're still trying to build him a new body and have that be one of the driving forces for the actual movie, having to stop the First Order and stop the cloning project before he's able to fully return.

If they choose David Dastmalchian as a villain, my interest in this project would increase.

@Repian - random but yeah why not, I think he’s long overdue a bigger role in something.

@Repian - I know he was in The Dark Knight, but I’d love to see him as DCU’s Joker.

@RafaelTorres - If they make Darth Nihl canon, Dastmalchian would be perfect to play him.

Since old Palpatine ‘created’ Anakin with evil (supposedly) and rey is the child of one of Palatines clones…. Are Luke and Rey cousins?

Off Topic:

I read the plot leak for Indy 5.
It seems rather boring.
If this is accurate then I’m skipping this one and I’ll wait for streaming.

@MaxPaint - I'd rather Rian Johnson direct it again (despite my dislike for how Luke was handled) than some barely known director to helm a Rey movie. This movie has the expectation to make up for the sequel episodes. Unless Filoni is involved, we are just going to get more forgettable trash. Filoni made the prequels so much more watchable with his cartoons.

Just pull from the ROTJ early drafts and bring Luke back to life.

I feel like at this point he'll just make his decision based on what their ideas are for his appearance.

He's expressed his opinion that he had mixed feelings over Episode 8 (which the fandom have then taken out of context and exaggerated to the point that most people think he hated the movie) and then he had a very basic cameo in 9 before getting to be a part of bringing Luke back to the screen in his prime in The Mandalorian and BOBF. At this point I don't think he'd return unless he really wanted to.

What’s the point? They basically made a Luke a boring background character in the sequel trilogy.
