STAR WARS: Meet The 3 Female Pilots Cut From RETURN OF THE JEDI

Princess Leia aside, the original trilogy was a little short on ladies - and no wonder when they were being cut from the movies left right and center! Footage of 2 these unsung rebel heroes can be found on the Blu-rays, but now a few more details have emerged..

This first one actually did make the final cut, but her line "got it" was dubbed over by a man, before she was blown to bits by a Tie-Fighter seconds later.

This older lady was also cut. Apparently the reason was that seeing female characters die in fiery explosions would have been a bit much for audiences of the time. Evidently seeing them fed to giant monsters after failing to please their master was fine.

Footage of both of those gals can be found in the Original Trilogy Blu-ray extras, but now thanks to Buzzfeed we know there was also a third female pilot that ended up on the cutting room floor. French actress Vivienne Chandler even had more than a page of dialog to go with her scenes.

Personally I don't know what people are complaining about - wasn't there also that Sy Snootles chick that sang in Jabba's Palace, AND the aforementioned hot green alien with tails on her head that was fed to the Rancor! No women characters? Pfffft.

I never noticed. Mm, that musta sucked to have gotten a full page of dialoge and then not be in the movie. Return of the Jedi was the worst out of the original trilogy anyway so not being in it shouldn't be that difficult to bare. Jedi was almost like a TV movie or atleast some parts and it is dated for sure. It basically ripped off the first movie but with ewoks. I don't think the people making it were complaining, probably just thought it was a little risky. They had no balls in elevating the film in all areas. Empire Strikes Back elevated Star Wars to new heights in drama and character, then Jedi just made it all kiddy. Too bad Gary Kurtz wasn't producing. Long live Episode III, IV and V!

Some of the ewoks are women too, right?

And personally for me Carrie Fisher is all I need in a Star Wars flick...unless that chick in tea's photo was in the films ;)

My favorite female character was the multi-breasted woman that was in the scene with the female rancor appetizer.

Teabag, you should be the female cast coordinator for these movies...that chick in white would have owned trilogy...

Yeah the original movies were a gigantic sausage fest. I mean I love them and all, and the shitty prequals made them look even brighter, but the misogony wasnt lost.

As Ror pointed out having a woman getting eaten by a monster is way worse than getting blown up. I'm guessing the casting directors of the time thought the heavily male audience would only want to see woman if they were in bikini's or skintight suits, not a Rebel Fighter pilot get up. Men.

The universe wasn't ready for a woman pilot. They would crash the flight simulators cuz they wer busy putting on lipstick and taking self pictures and posting them on social medias.

Lando might have been the only black guy but the only Latino we got was chewie.

It always did feel like they didn't show enough pilots during the big battle in ROTJ. Shame they had to take out all the chicks.

@Plasticman:

Her name was Yarna...dam that's sad that I didn't even have to go to Wookieepedia to double-check myself on that one.

I'm pretty sure that there was a woman that played one of the Commandos that went with Han to the Forest moon of Endor as well.

That's bullshit that they dubbed over her line with a guy's voice! I wouldn't have minded the French actress being in the final cut either.

I have noticed a serious lack of female presence in the original movies. Thankfully, Disney is much more pro-girls.

@batz That lady Stormtrooper in the bottom picture could detain me any day. ;)
