Since Disney bought LucasFilm, Disney announced that they were making a new Star Wars trilogy. We have had a lot of rumors and facts about the trilogy. Everything from the writer of Toy Story 3 will write a film to the writers of Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi to be involved and to Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, Harrison Ford and Billy Dee Williams may return in the new trilogy. We now have learned that George Lucas's righthand man, Rick McCallum, will retire from LucasFilm. Rick McCallum has been a producer for the Star Wars prequel trilogy, the Star Wars Special Editions, and Lucas' recent film Red Tails. Because of Lucas stepping down, it would make sense that McCallum leaves too.

The announcement of his retirement from LucasFilm was actually revealed quietly last month, the same week that the Disney purchase was announced. Lucasfilm's director of fan relations, Steve Sansweet, announced it on the ForceCast.net podcast that Rick would be leaving. McCallum had also been involved in the eternally gestating live-action Star Wars television show, though presumably Disney will now have its own ideas about how to proceed with Star Wars on TV.
