STAR WARS: Taika Waititi's Movie Is Reportedly Preparing To Shoot In Scotland As Soon As This December

This is definitely unexpected, but The Daily Record (via Games Radar) is reporting that three days of shooting is set to take place in Scotland this December for Taika Waititi's Star Wars movie.

So, how is this going to work, especially as the filmmaker is shooting Thor: Love and Thunder in January? Well, it's explained that this is unlikely to be the start of production with actors, sets, and a full crew; instead, it's probably just location scouting and footage that could be used for wide shots.

"It’s great that Star Wars have decided to use Scotland’s breathtaking scenery for some of their first production shots," the report reads. "The film is still a few years away thanks to the COVID but it will be very exciting for fans to hear that the ball has started rolling on this highly anticipated movie."

"Filming will take place in the Highlands and will focus on the hills and surrounding areas. It will likely be a small crew and an assistant director heading to Scotland to film over three days. Star Wars is the latest [film] to showcase Scotland and everything this beautiful country has to offer."

That all makes sense, and with Waititi in pre-production on his Star Wars movie, it's clear now that he's likely to jump straight from the Marvel Cinematic Universe to a Galaxy Far, Far Away. Nothing is known about what setting or characters this first post-Skywalker Saga story will focus on, and it will probably be a while before we find out any official details from Lucasfilm.

Here's hoping for the many adventures of IG-11, eh?

Taika is great, but
I have a bad feeling about this

@dracula - Lucasfilm had two big properties come out around the same time last year. One of them was rife with micromanaging and lacked foresight. The other allowed its storytellers to do their job without interference. One of them was generally disliked or forgotten, while the other was met with universal acclaim and excitement for more. The optimistic side of me hopes that they learned a lesson from this and the era of Mandalorian-style Star Wars film-making has begun.

@InfinitePunches - Agree, just dont think Taika is right for Star Wars

@dracula - Every type of story has been done in Star Wars. The original trilogy is a Shakespearean tragedy. Thrawn: Treason is a political thriller. The Clone Wars Deception arc is a heist. Rogue One is a war movie. Senate Murders is a mystery. I don't think Star Wars has to be a specific thing. Taika did the finale of Mandalorian and it was phenomenal.

@dracula - So far, we know nothing about his intentions so I'm waiting to see more than anything.

I'm much more worried about Kathleen Kennedy meddling with the production again than with Taika Waititi directing the movie.

Doesn't make sense nor adds up with the schedule of Love & Thunder. Taika should clarify this.

Weird that they're already gonna start shooting stuff so soon. The first slated Star Wars movie isn't due until december 2023. Guess this could be shooting ambient shots for The Volume then.

There's one character I think Waititi could have a lot of fun with.
