This is definitely unexpected, but The Daily Record (via Games Radar) is reporting that three days of shooting is set to take place in Scotland this December for Taika Waititi's Star Wars movie.
So, how is this going to work, especially as the filmmaker is shooting Thor: Love and Thunder in January? Well, it's explained that this is unlikely to be the start of production with actors, sets, and a full crew; instead, it's probably just location scouting and footage that could be used for wide shots.
"It’s great that Star Wars have decided to use Scotland’s breathtaking scenery for some of their first production shots," the report reads. "The film is still a few years away thanks to the COVID but it will be very exciting for fans to hear that the ball has started rolling on this highly anticipated movie."
"Filming will take place in the Highlands and will focus on the hills and surrounding areas. It will likely be a small crew and an assistant director heading to Scotland to film over three days. Star Wars is the latest [film] to showcase Scotland and everything this beautiful country has to offer."
That all makes sense, and with Waititi in pre-production on his Star Wars movie, it's clear now that he's likely to jump straight from the Marvel Cinematic Universe to a Galaxy Far, Far Away. Nothing is known about what setting or characters this first post-Skywalker Saga story will focus on, and it will probably be a while before we find out any official details from Lucasfilm.
Here's hoping for the many adventures of IG-11, eh?
