Theories about Rey's parents have been doing the rounds for two years now, with fans suggesting that she's everything from a Skywalker to a Kenobi and Dooku. Well, it turns out that we don't have too much longer to wait as it's been revealed by Entertainment Weekly that Star Wars: The Last Jedi will resolve the question we've been asking in regards to where the Jedi in training comes from.
"To me, it’s important insofar as it’s important to her," director Rian Johnson says of his plans to resolve the mystery. "And I think it’s important to her in terms of what is her place in all of this? What’s going to define her in this story? She was told in the last movie that the answer’s not in the past; it’s looking forward. But she’s showing up on this island to talk to this hero from the past."
Daisy Ridley also doesn't seem to think it's all that important as she says that Rey learning who her parents are and why she was abandoned on Jakku ultimately won't change her journey all that much.
"You can always look for answers and that doesn’t mean that the rest of your life is so easy. It’s not like, oh, I know who my parents are so now everything falls into shape, especially in the Star Wars world," the actress says. "Yes, it would potentially change her mind, or at least give her a little bit more peace in moving forward. But ultimately what’s coming is coming, and whatever abilities she has are there. So, I think it’s less important than even she may think." What does that mean?
We'll have to wait and see but it's going to be vital to avoid spoilers this December, that's for sure!
