STAR WARS: THE RISE OF SKYWALKER Concept Art Reveals More Amazing Early Takes On Dark Rey

This newly revealed Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker concept art showcases some alternate takes on Dark Rey, including a sinister version of the Jedi and a nod to a key moment in The Empire Strikes Back...

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker saw Rey get a devastating vision of what could happen if she were to fall to the Dark Side, but it was a scenario the movie only touched on very briefly. Given the fast pace of J.J. Abrams' Skywalker Saga finale, that's no great surprise, but some newly revealed concept art from Adam Brockbank reveals some alternate takes on the moment.

The first was clearly meant to pay homage to The Empire Strikes Back when Luke "defeats" Darth Vader and finds his own face beneath the Sith Lord's helmet. In Rey's case, it's understandably Kylo Ren's helmet she sees a twisted version of herself in.

In the second piece of concept art, Rey gets an appropriately creepy new appearance which you have to imagine is how she might have ended up looking had Emperor Palpatine's plan succeeded. He wanted his granddaughter to strike him down so he could take over her body for himself.

This artwork is obviously from Abrams' version of The Rise of Skywalker (rather than Colin Trevorrow's Duel of the Fates), and it's a shame the filmmaker didn't take a closer look at Rey potentially being tempted to the Dark Side like Luke once was, as it would have made for interesting viewing.

What do you guys think?

The first one is actually pretty cool. Wish they did more with dark side Rey

Looks like the armor Gary Oldman wore in "Bram Stoker's Dracula" (1992).

@SuperCat - The costume and set design on that movie are superb. The Sith troopers have the same lines on their armor, which was also inspired by Dracula's "muscle suit."

What they never got was that the character of Rey they put on the screen was more of a Dark Side user than Kylo who was just a brat.

I didn't think Rise of Skywalker was terrible, but it was just such an empty and flat "end to the franchise" that I left more angry than I was with other similarly flat Star Wars saga entries (Solo, Rogue One, etc). If you compare the ending to the ending of Return of the Jedi (which, for all that movie's faults, is perfect), it's a missed opportunity on every level.

Dark Rey was in this movie an hilariously small amount of time. For all the things JJ Abrams sacrifices in the name of "cool", how he managed to not have Dark Rey be an actual clone of Rey (in a film series largely built on cloning) escapes me, especially when she would've been a cool enough underboss so that Rey and Kylo could actually have a half-decent physically challenging opponent in the end.

Every concept-art of Dark Rey is better than what we got in the movie.
