USER EDITORIAL: Possible New Directors For Future STAR WARS Movies

Now that George Lucas has retired one can only speculate about other Star Wars movies. These are who I think should helm it.

Well George Lucas isn't working anymore one can only hope for more Star Wars films, maybe Force Unleashed 501st or, my favorite, a Boba Fett film either or the question stands who should direct I have come up with a few choices that I hope will be beneficial.

1. Ridley Scott

He has done space films such as Alien and Prometheus, he has also done Blade Runner and there is no doubt he is a fantastic director.

2.Christopher Nolan

I know i will be frowned upon for being a nolanite and this might be why I picked him but he always delivers in his movies and has shown a great love for Star Wars

3. Peter Jackson

A fanboys wet dream Peter Jackson has made films that everyone loves from Lord of the Rings to King Kong and each film keeps you on the edge of your seat just like old fashioned Star Wars

4. Neil Blomkamp

thanks to headlopper for this choice, he directed the wildly good District 9 and I think he would be well perfect for a movie about the 501st

5. James Cameron

who wouldn't want this he is such a big director and Star Wars is such a big franchise I think they would fit together like a puzzle.

6. Josh Trank

I just got back from seeing Chronicle and if he isn't busy with Fantastic Four I think this would be just fantastic.

7. Michael Mann

He is a fantastic director but most would think not for Star Wars but I mentioned a Boba Fett movie and that, I'd assume, would be all about mercenaries and the "space mob" and he captures those elements so perfectly.

So tell me what you think in the comments section and I will try to respond to everyone.

They're all excellent choices.

My personal favorite is Neill Blomkamp.

is it just me or do a lot of people on here pick the same directors over and over again, there are a countless amount of directors out there and all i read on here for who you would want to direct a movie is directors who have made something along the lines of comic book or huge sci fi movies already, its always peter Jackson,Chris Nolan,JJ Abrams, and since black swan Darren Aronofsky, Im not even a fan of star wars or lord of the rings, but you think you would want something a little different. Someone that could offer something new and fresh. Am i out of line here?

Hire a true Star Wars geek, not a well known director.

@teabag

Eh, good point. Actually.... [frick] Star Wars!

Bring on John Carter and Marvel's Cosmic films.

#1-I'm sure Uncle George has an heir apparent to take over the franchise.
#2- I'm pretty confident it's in legal contract form
#3- And I wouldn't doubt he(Lucas) has in the legal documentation what direction HE wants Star Wars to go in.

So in short my fellow SW fans, lets not get our hopes up.Sorry.

JJ Abrams would be excellent. New Star Trek is basically a Star Wars movie already.

But Headlopper is unfortunately right. It's unlikely that we'll see Wars un-ruined on the big screen for a long time...

The last great footage of Star Wars I've seen (as of recently) is the CGI trailers for 'The Force Unleashed' and 'The Old Republic'. At least LucasArt puts out good products...

I like Blomkamp and Abrams. As much as I love Nolan, I don't think he'd be a good fit for Star Wars.

of course nolan would be on the list. the guy can't direct action scenes and we don't want a dark, psychological thriller out of star wars. what about spielberg?

I don't really care who directs the movie as long as I get to see a good Star Wars movie come out in my lifetime.

I want them to make FOrce Unleashed and The Old Republic movies because whenever I see one of those bad ass cinematic trailers I always get a sick feeling because I hate the wasted potential.

@3D- You are so right. The vidceo game trailer are so freaking bad ass.

Just image a movie of this and we already have an actor to play Star Killer aka Sam Wiwer.

I think Spielberg would be awesome. The Star Wars universe is so big I would hope Mr Lucas would allow someone to make a few good movies. In the early 90's there was a series of comic books about the Jedi and the Sith. I would love to see a movie that takes place a few hundred years before episode 1.

I'd want Blomkamp to do it after District 10. District 10 MUST be made.

I'm pretty sure Lucas said he never wanted any of the follow up stories to be made into movies, like ever.

If he goes back on that, then I vote for Mel Brooks to direct, with McG as his assistant, and have it written by Ben Affleck. Toss in Johnny Depp and the ghost of Leslie Nielson as jedi, and boom, instant epic.

Ridley Scott-Yea
Christopher Nolan- Even as a sorta nolanite i have to say hell no!
James Cameron- HELL YEA!

J.J Abrams is my top pick

Honestly, all I want is an original Star Wars story that is tonally consistent with the original trilogy. Never cared about the extended universe, never wanted any of the movies to care about it.
