Latino Review is reporting a recent news report from Hollywood Insider claiming that the upcoming fifth Terminator film (the film's development halted due to Arnie's recent scandal and wanting to focus on personal life) will actually be a reboot of the well known franchise, taking similarites to 2009's Star Trek reboot. They also mention again that Fast Five director Justin Lin is still attached to the project, and also talks about casting.

With the rights to the Terminator settled, producer Megan Ellison (and daughter of multi-billionaire Larry Ellison) is intent in re-launching the famed franchise.

Hollywood Insider speculated she may take the production of the reboot film similar to J.J. Abrams’ Star Trek reboot.

Director Justin Lin’s name has been attached to the project. He recently directed Fast Five.

No major studio is on board at this time. However, Hollywood Insider reported that Universal Pictures has been showing the most amount of interest in the reboot franchise.

In fact, the site suggested the Terminator franchise will be anchored by a younger male lead. The article mentioned Paul Walker’s name in the rumor circles—possibly to play Kyle Reese.

And just like J.J. Abrams’ Star Trek reboot, many of the original characters will return for the reboot film—but not necessarily the original cast.

For now, take Hollywood Insider’s report as a strong rumor for now. Ellison just won the auction last month at Cannes and she’ll definitely have big plans for the franchise.

As said already, this is just a rumor, so take it with a grain of salt. Anyways, Terminator 5 currently has no release date.

Seeing as the probability of Kyle being John's original father is slim-to-none: the events of the first film most likely lead into an alternate reality. The second, ((possibly third,)) and fourth films also had actions (such as the destruction of Cyberdyne and the rebirth of Marcus Wright) that would cause even more alternate realities. All-in-all: time travel does nothing but screw with reality, by causing multiple alternate realities. What says that the lady who was driving the car, that the TX took at the beginning of T3, wasn't going home to have sex with her husband and conceive the next Albert Einstein? But I digress.

I'm all for a fifth film, but I really hope that it's not a reboot. I want a sequel to "Terminator Salvation", and I want Yelchin reprising his role as Kyle Reese.

NOOO. Keep the cast, put more focus on Anton Yelchin as Kyle Rees and continue the story! The next one should show the lead up to Kyle going back in time to save Sarah, ending with him and Arnie being sent back.

No reboot could ever match the first 2, thats why they shouldn't try and recreate it. But they can continue the story, and I'd love to see that.

I think that they should reboot it or contiune from Terminator 2.

I say they should continue the series right after Terminator Salvation

Bring Back Eddie Furlong or even Nick Stahl for Terminator 5, bring back Arnie

But keep Anton Yelchin as Kyle Reese, and then you have yourselves a movie

They better not make a reebot...they are sooooooooooooo close to wrapping up the timeline, it will be a waste to just re-do the whole thing.

It could be said the timeline reboots itself, but we know that. The idea was to make a second trilogy, wasn't it? T1-3 with sub headings after the number, then 3 with names after Terminator. How the [frick] can they try to remake Terminator. Yes, they have AS's digital image to use once the graphics are good enough to make a believable Cyborg Arnold, but this soon while he's alive?

Please, please, PLEASE! NO MORE! Terminator franchise...no story, is and ONLY is, Terminator 1 and Terminator 2: Judgement Day. T3 doesn't exist, T4 is just as awful. No Terminator film beyond the original story by James Cameron will ever be good. No 'reboot' of the old story will ever be good. I've had enough of people sucking dry great stories, and ruining them for money! Stop destroying the name of my 2 favourite films so you can make a buck from someone else's hard work! Terminator ended with T2, no matter how hard you try to continue it. Leave it alone. I cannot bare anymore abominations to such a great name and story.

And this idea of a 'second trilogy'....there was never a 1st trilogy. Star Wars consists of 2 trilogies. Why? Becuase 3 films were planned and created and a part of 1 thing. Then another 3 in the same fashion. But Terminator was created as TWO films. A 3rd was added by another director, with much change to the originals story and themes. T3 is NOT part of the original 2. It deviates too much. It was not planned and made in line with the original 2, so T1, T2 and T3 are NOT a trilogy. If a 'new' T trilogy is planned, it is the FIRST trilogy in the series, not the second.
