Tron Legacy Sequel Is On The Way With A New Writer!

Tron Legacy Sequel Is On The Way With A New Writer!

It's being reported that a sequel to Tron Legacy has been greenlit by Disney, with a new writer hired to build upon the events of the last two movies! Hit the jump for details...

Below are a few excerpts from the exclusive report over at The Hollywood Reporter. To read more, simply click on the link at the bottom of the page. Interestingly, the site mention that the future of Tron on the big screen may hinge on the success of upcoming Disney XD, animated series Tron: Uprising.

David DiGilio has been tapped to write the sequel to Tron Legacy. Adam Horowitz and Adam Kitsis, who worked on Legacy, were slated to return but got waylaid by Once Upon a Time, the fairy tale show they created for ABC and is debuting this fall.

The vacancy allowed DiGilio to slide in with a take that would build on the first two movies.Since it is early in the development process, it's unclear whether Joseph Kosinski would return to the director's chair.

Despite not being too well revieved by most critics, the 3D movie made a decent profit for Disney at the box office, so news of work going ahead on a sequel isn't really that shocking. What do you guys think of this news? Be sure to share your thoughts in the usual place!

Cool. I watched the original Tron in the theater when it was released. I also went to a class on how to use a TRS80 with my Dad when it came out... The Tron Legacy was good and look forward to the next one.

Tron Legacy was a great movie. I even bought that cool version of the blu ray that has the Indentity disc as the disc holder.

Can't wait for the sequel! Flynn Lives.

I hope the story is better this time and they have less plot holes, dialog and pacing issues as well. The film could have been much better, but the flaws stuck out a bit too much. I'll see it though, the world of Tron is fascinating and has great potential. I would like to see the franchise continue and hopefully get better. I would like Daft Punk to score it again as well, that was a cool soundtrack.

Yeah, Legacy was real good
Bring back Bridges, Boxleitner, and Daft Punk

As much as I like this film and it was def better than the original, there was just something about the grid in the new one that didnt make ya feel like you were in a godamn videogame.

I thought Tron Legacy was pretty frickin awesome I don't know why people didn't like it. Jeff Bridges was fantastic as both the hero and the villain of the movie. I loved the cameo of Bruce Boxleitner in the movie I thought that was pretty cool. Plus evil Tron was cool too. I hope they make a sequel.

I thought it was pretty unimaginative in a huge way and only slightly more viewable than the unviewable original. 8-bit micros that ruled in the 80's were at least represented with the limited look of the Tron world in the original movie but to have the same featureless crappy look in this day and age of 32 and 16 bit computer capable of photo-realistic images for everything even video games, the whole thing just looked like an 80's retread. I expected a much more advanced look since nothing advances faster than computes, all we got were black suits instead of white cloth ones! 3rd movie for Fanboys only!

I watched the original last night, and the new one tonight, I gotta say, I love these movies! I love the look and the feel to both of them and I can't wait for both TRON: Uprising, and the third one! I hope in the third one we get to see Dillinger Jr. as a program, whether its the villain or an anti-hero (both would be cool), and I want to see a fully awesome hero version of Tron again, since he didn't die in the second one he could totally come back, and i wouldn't be surprised if they somehow made it possible to bring Jeff Bridges back, also Lora/Yori and Ram's User would be awesome! Sorry after watching both of them the last couple of nights I'm kind of on a TRON high...

I thought Legacy was flawless and for me was the best thing i saw in 2010. Kepping the same director is the most important thing i can think of when considering another sequel as i could totally feel the passion this User felt for his Program. I hope this whole article is bs.

Sounds interesting. Haven't seen the latest Tron film, but it is in my Netflix Queue so I should be seeing it soon. Kind of curious if Bridges, etc will be returning in the sequel. I guess we don't know yet.
