Producer Akiva Goldman who is connected to 4 upcoming comic book movies--Jonah Hex, Lobo, The Loosers, and Swamp Thing--is now connected to a 5th film based on a comic book: DC's Sgt. Rock.

He's joining Joel Silver who has been trying for decades to bring Sgt. Rock to the silver screen.

Guy Ritchie was set to write and direct this flick but he's moved on to direct Lobo, so the job of directing is going to Francis Lawrence of I Am Legend/em> and Chad St. John (The Days Before) is to write the script.

Fans will be interested in noting that Sgt. Rock and Easy Co. will not be fighting the Nazis in WWII. The movie will apparently be set in the future!

That movie will be sh*t maybe unless spun right. I used to read my dads comics with Sgt. Rock and if they don't have him killin Nazi's then it wont be Sgt. Rock. It will be a steaming pile of Sh*t.

What the heck is this super secret intel about how no one wants to see movies about WW2?? I have never heard that, before and I sure as shit don't know anyone that feels that way. I see every war movie that comes out! This is utter nonsense.

WW2 movies are the best! Iraq/Afganistan war movies get boring due to all the desert except for jarhead and kingdom but still

I watched Jarhead i thought it was a great movie didn't see kingdom though. I watch WWII stuff all the time history channel and what are they going to do Change Captain America to the future cause no one wants to see WWII Era. People watch it but Hollywood Exects want to see future stuff. Cause that's what all the kids like who care's keep it true to the comics or don't make it.

WTF? Rock is part of easy company. A fictitous member with his whole squad fighting and making history in WW2 Europe. The Series "Band of Brothers" is really Sgt. Rock's setting. His stories just happen beside those of the real Easy Company.

This might be a great action flic but its not going to capture what is truly Sgt. Rock.

If you take Sgt. Rock out WWII then he is no longer Sgt. Rock. They might as well change the name of the movie to Lieutenant Stone or some other BS.

Oh, yeah....I'm a noob....first time poster long time lurker!

I'm not into war comics and I don't really know dick about Sgt. Rock, but every image of him from DC comics that I have ever seen has been WWII era. I pretty much assumed that this setting was essential to the character. F*cking Hollywood!

Once again Hollywood strays from the source and once it fails they will wonder where they went wrong and a REBOOT will happen :/

douchebags

if they're going to change it that much, why bother

just change the characters, and call it something else

I know those [frick]wads aren't going to read this, but READ THE DAMN BOOKS, and then tell me that those stories aren't dependent on the time that they were set. You move this into the future, and you just have another action movie. You set it in WWII and you can portray the racism, the changes that were needed in society(see the Story titles"The Color of Your Blood"), so on and so forth.

bastards

Hey, they should make a movie not set in Metropolis, not featuring anyone called Clark Kent, not featuring any super powers and they should call it Superman!

Hey, it's not like anyone will notice or care, right?

Holy mother of God! Why would Silver hold on to this property for 20 years and then totally eviscerate it when it finally gets a chance to be made?

It's like buying the rights to the Conan character and then turning him into a CIA agent. What would be the point?

Dumb, dumb Hollywood. WWII or just don't bother.
