Predictions for Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings' box office performance have fluctuated somewhat over the past week or so (no big surprise given the current climate), with early estimates pointing to a record-breaking domestic cume. Those figures did drop significantly on Friday, but we now have confirmation that Marvel Studios' next Phase 4 adventure will have taken in over $90 million by close of business today!
The movie had already claimed the third highest opening day of the pandemic era with $29.6M (just behind F9‘s $29.9M), but this now officially secures the Master of Martial Arts' live-action debut the biggest Labor Day opening weekend of all-time. Overseas, the movie has amassed $56.2 million for a global total of $146.2 million.
A number of factors contributed to this incredibly successful opening, but chief among them is the fact that the film is only playing in theaters and is not available to stream. Will Shang-Chi turn out to be the movie that gets the box office back on track? We wouldn't bet against it!
Marvel Studios’ Shang-Chi and The Legend of The Ten Rings stars Simu Liu as Shang-Chi, who must confront the past he thought he left behind when he is drawn into the web of the mysterious Ten Rings organization. Shang-Chi and The Legend of The Ten Rings is directed by Destin Daniel Cretton and produced by Kevin Feige and Jonathan Schwartz, with Louis D’Esposito, Victoria Alonso and Charles Newirth serving as executive producers.
