Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings looks set to be a box office hit this weekend (in this pandemic era, at least), and fans are already excited to see where the title character's story will goe next.
Those who have seen the movie have strongly suggested there are at least some hints about the hero's future, but during a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Simu Liu weighed in on his MCU journey. Unfortunately (and understandably), he couldn't share any specifics, but has some ideas about where he wants Shang-Chi to go.
"In terms of what’s next, I know what’s on my mind is the same as what’s on everybody else’s mind, and hopefully, there’s an Avengers in the future, somewhere," the actor said. "Obviously, I don’t know anything about that, but being such a big fan of the whole franchise, I know that that’s the gold star. All of the media frenzy that surrounds one of those properties is going to be a whole beast unto itself, so it’s certainly what I hope for."
The trade pushed for details, promoting Liu to respond: "I’ve got nothing. I’ve got absolutely nothing. I think we’re just so focused on pushing this movie out to the world and making sure people watch it. And when it releases in theaters September 3rd, wherever it’s safe for people to do so, that they come out and experience the mind-blowing action and the incredible story that this movie has."
We can't help but think Liu might have been clued into Shang-Chi's MCU future to at least some extent, but spilling the beans on something as secretive as that wouldn't be a wise way to start his tenure in this shared world. Either way, we're sure Marvel Studios has big plans for Shang-Chi, especially after the warm critical response to his origin story.
