Despite directing Shazam! and the upcoming Shazam! Fury of the Gods, filmmaker David F. Sandberg has confirmed that he had zero input into Black Adam, casting doubt on the possibility of a crossover!

Shazam and Black Adam are closely tied together, something which was evident from that tantalizing glimpse of the latter in 2019's Shazam! film. While the Black Adam spinoff promises to explore the anti-hero's history, and a team-up/battle with the Justice Society in the present day, it's looking a lot like any sort of crossover really is off the table.

This shouldn't come as too much of a surprise, especially when Zachary Levi has said on a few occasions that he's heard nothing about Shazam crossing paths with Black Adam.

Both films shooting at the same time led to speculation about a meeting of some sort, even if it was to lay the groundwork for a crossover. Unfortunately, Shazam! Fury of the Gods helmer David F. Sandberg clearly has zero input in Black Adam, pointing to the two films being completely separate.

"I don’t even know what’s happening with the Black Adam movie, and that’s a Shazam character, so I’m not really in the loop on these things," the director admitted on Twitter.

This is disappointing to hear, and while there's every possibility that things will change, it seems Warner Bros. is continuing to prioritise making standalone features rather than crossover events.

WB just loves chaos. If the idea is to eventually have shazam and black adam meet, wouldnt it be a good idea to get an input from shazams director? It sounds like a logical thing to do. No wonder they are in such a mess all the time.

I love how in-universe, companies are making toys of a guy who brands criminals.

@JFerguson - Weirder is that the Arrowverse has Flash, Green Arrow and Captain Cold action figures in universe. Guess you can get away with making toys out the heroes since most of them keep their identity secret, but did Captain Cold make money off of that stuff before he died?

@JFerguson - I mean... Joe Arpaio bobbleheads are a thing...

We've got Hot Toys making Private Military Contractors (e.g. off-brand Blackwater) and I've seen enough Obama and Trump merchandise to know there's a big market there.

It's not entirely unreasonable to think a flamboyant vigilante might somehow get merchandised. Though I do wonder how the licensing would work.

@JFerguson - The fact Batman has action figures that look exactly like him down to minor details is very stupid, he's supposed to be an urban legend, the jersey devil, don't know if it's a man or thing, something criminals are terrified by and the public are not 100% sure is real, police know about him but few others. Would any criminal actually be afraid of Batman if they saw his regular joe in a suit action figure in a toy store, not likely.

While it would be nice if he had input. Would help avoid issues between his take and this other guy's take when they eventually crossover. It would be hypocritical if I said he should have input. Snyder didn't deserve control of other director's projects neither does any other director.

Really the person who should make sure the takes on the characters match up between different directors is the head of the studio, Walter Hamada. He is suppose to be the Kevin Feige

Just ignore their take when you use Black Adam.

Jenkins ignores the stupid, savage Wonder Woman that Snyder planned.

Wann, despite trying to stick to what happened in Hack Snyder's version still had a very differemt more goofy take on Atlantis

Shazam itself doesnt seem to fit in at all to the established world outside of the body of superman cameo.

Speaking of fun, kid turned superhero stories. This is a show worth checking out

Personally think the trailer could be better but the show surprised me.

I'l not asking DC to become as connective (and sometimes constrictive) as the MCU, I like that each movie has it's own vibe. But come on, this is the Shazam universe. James Gunn sat down with Taika Waititi because of the Guardians' inclusion in Thor Love & Thunder. That's the reasonable thing to do.

@Fares - I think they see this more like a Spider-Man/Venom situation where their movies are not connected at all despite their comicbook connection, which is a huge mistake, imo. 😕
